Yes I think it would be a help to show other names for the same tense, like Perfect for preterite - this is my fifth language and the first time I have come across Preterite! That may just date me!!

Don't panic! For a start click "Lessons" in the top line,
then "Channels" in the second line,
then "Newbie" in the fourth line.
Currently there are 62 newbie lessons in that channel. You can start with any of them. Just have a look and choose one that appears to be interesting. Enjoy!

In addition to the “Newbei lessons there are groups on this blog . Use this link to go to the Interest - Total Beginner group. There you will find a thread called Exchange or resource to learn Spanish. There are some good ideas there

Listen to a couple Newbie lessons, do the exercises and then take the words and phrases you have in your pocket and put some of them together in a post, along with copy in English of what you were trying to say.
There are lots of friendly people here willing to help.
