Question of the day:

Do you consider yourself a gentleman?

Question to the ladies:

Do you like chivalrous men?

Let us hear your honest opinion.

What can I say, I come from a culture where men are very gentlemanly. I really like it. As always in moderation.

¿o me equivoco?

In the dialogue Marco comments that estar is used with an adjective. I didn't know that. What is the rule?

Hola rj2475!

The general rule is that you use 'estar' to talk about temporary or transient states: estar cansado, estar enojado, estar feliz (to be tired, angry, happy)

And you use 'ser' to talk about more lasting states: ser americano, ser bajo, ser inteligente (to be American, short, intelligent).

As always, there are some exceptions: estar muerto (to be dead), for example.

And there are some adjectives that change meaning depending on whether they are used with 'ser' or 'estar'"

El muchacho es aburrido = The boy is boring.

El muchacho está aburrido = The boy is bored.

Hola,

En la frase 'Trae muchas bolsas.'(You are carrying a lot of bags.).....¿Se puede decir también 'Lleva muchas bolsas.' o 'Carga muchas bolsas.'?

Gracias por tu respuesta...
