Hi ncmuck, your second sentence is perfectly fine :)

Literally, that first sentence is "who ate (for himself/herself) my sandwich?" As in, 'who the heck took MY sandwich and ate it for himself?"

That "se" just means "for himself/herself," but it also has an added effect; it seems to color the action unexpected.

"Comerse" is offen used to mean "to gobble up," whereas "comer" just means "to eat." Hope that helps.
