Question of the day: ¿Cuál es tu metro preferido? ¿El de que ciudad? ¿Tomas con frecuencia el metro?

Yo no tomo el metro, no me gusta hay mucha gente, pero a veces es mas conveniente y rápido.

Mi metro preferido es el de Hong Kong.

I dont take the subway, I don´t like it, there is too many people, but sometimes it is more convienent and fast.

My favorite subway is the one in Hong Kong.

No tomo el metro ahora, pero hace muchos años, tomaba el "subway" en Nueva York y me gustaba mucho. Había mucha gente y hacía mucho ruido. Es muy rapido y corre 24 horas al día. Lo peor fue en el verano con mucha gente sin aire condicionado. Creo que ahora todos tienen aire.

Fui al metro en italia tambien y me gustó. El metro de San Francisco es muy bueno.

Cuando viajo en otros países, siempre me gusta aprovechar de utilizar el metro o otras formas de transportatión público cuando es posible.

el metro de londres es destartalado y gastado. necesitamos uno de nuevo como el MRT de singapur. Todavia es tan limpio que parece como estas el primero viajero

the london underground is tatty and worn out, we need a new one like the MRT in singapore. it is still so clean it seems like you are the first traveller.

Mi metro preferido es el metro en el photo -- de Washington, DC.  Pero el metro más impresionate  es de Moscú porque parce un museo.

Como kikuyu, cuando viajo, casi siempre utilizo el metro (o "tube," "subway," "subte," etc.).  Mi metro favorito es el de Paris.  ¡Me encanta el metro de Paris!  No tengo que esperar más que unos minutos que llegue, y hay muchas paradas por todas partes de la ciudad.  Por eso, puedo ir a cualquier sitio que quiera.

(Like kikuyu, when I travel, I almost always use the metro (or "tube," "subway," "subte," etc.)  My favorite metro is the one in Paris.  I love the Paris metro!  I don't have to wait more than a few minutes for it to arrive, and there are many metro stations all over the city.  Therefore, I can go wherever I want.)

Yo, cuando era joven, tuve que viajar por metro en Nueva York diariamente y en esa entonces, era un suplicio -- peligroso, sucio, abarrotado, ruidoso.  Pero sí era barato y rápido.  Ahora es diferente, lo sé, más seguro y limpio aunque también más costoso. When I was young, I had to travel by subway in New York every day and at that time, it was torture -- dangerous, dirty, crowded, noisy.  But it was in fact cheap and quick.  Now it's different, I know, safer and cleaner although also more expensive.

Me di cuenta de que la palabra "donde" aquí --

"... y donde el árbol izquierda" 

es preposición.  Creo que es la misma estructura que usa Allende (y nos enseñó Kikuyu) cuando dice, por ejemplo, "donde Kate" en su novela, la Ciudad de las Bestias. I noticed that the word "donde" here is a preposition.  I think it's the same structure that Allende uses (and Kikuyu pointed out to us) when she says, for example, "donde Kate" in the novel, La Ciudad de las Bestias.

Hello!  I live in Washington, DC, and I like the metro here.  But, I think it needs repairs because the trains and tracks are very old.  Sometimes, I wait up to half an hour for a train.

No hay la estación de metro donde vivo. De vez en cuando he tomada a ambos el metro de Montreal (le Métro) y el metro de Toronto. Los viajes con colegas durante al día están bien; los viajes sola por la noche son algo aterradores.

(There is no subway station where I live. On occasion I have taken both the Montreal subway and the Toronto subway. Travelling with collegues during the day is OK; travelling alone at night is somewhat terrifying.

Very good! Metro es en plural porque te refieres a los dos Toronto y Montreal. Tomado con teminación O porque es: YO HE TOMADO.

Cualquiera puedes usar en España dicen girar, en otras partes doblar, en México se dice ¨dar vuelta en¨. Es lo que tu prefieras usar todas son correctas.

You are correct, derecha is right and derecho is straight.

When receiving directions, you might hear

Siga derecho – continue straight a head.

Gire al la derecha- turn to the left.

But as an adjective derecho/a will match the gender of the noun it modifies.

El brazo derecho – the right arm.

La pierna derecha – the left leg

Can anyone explain to me why it is 'donde está' and not 'donde queda'

I understand that quedar is used for things like streets, and maybe monuments(?) And estar for people, things etc
Its just i'm a little confused at where the estar/quedar line is drawn.

cuttthatcity, "dónde queda" works perfectly fine in that case; there's no line to draw! 

I may be wrong, but I get the feeling that "dónde queda" is for static objects like businesses and buildings, and "dónde está" is a more general 'where' question, which can be used for anything, static or no. 

That's just my theory; the Latinos might correct me.

Gracias Stevestrv! We use 'derecho' here in the Philippines to say 'straight', I always got confused when I heard 'derecha'. But now it makes sense!

You are talking about gobernador general Rafael de Izquierdo, right? He was one of the very last ones, I believe, sometime in the late 19th century... Haha, I still remember my Philippine history.

Vivo en Auckland y no hay un metro aquí. Pero cuando vivía en London tomaba el metro casi cada día, sin embargo, mi favorito metro estaba en Madrid porque me gustaba escuchar los viajeros hablando en español.  Escuchaba pero no comprendía mucho! 

Yo vivo en Washington DC y el metro es muy limpio pero no mucho eficiente.

Me gusta muchissimo Spanish Pod! Soy brasilena y estoy finalmente intentando de aprender el espanol y olvidar el "Portunol".

jeraldina: I think \"no tiene pérdida\" literally means \"it has no missing\", i.e., it cannot be missed, or in other words: you cannot miss it. The dictionary of the RAE says (in the entry for pérdida):

no tener pérdida algo.

1. loc. verb. coloq. Ser fácil de hallar. [= to be easily located]

Ahora vivo en Shanghai y el metro de aquí es muy limpio y siempre llegue en tiempo. Pero, por supuesto, siempre hay mucha gente. 

Prefiero el metro en Estocolmo sobre todo porque en cada parada hay obras de arte de diferentes artistas suceos.
