La pregunta del día:

¿Les gusta usar el horno para cocinar?

¿Qué comida cocinan en el horno?

Do you like to use the oven to cook?

What type of food do you prepare in the oven?

How strange! I would have thought that if you cant cook, you'll need an oven to reheat prepared food.

What do i cook? Chips, of course. I dont know anyone who still uses a deep fat fryer although  it occurs to me that, for much Mexican cuisine, a deep fryer would be essential.

I don't understand the use of "me" in this sentence: Se me va a quemar el pollo.

The english explanation given in the conversation for the entire sentence is: "My chicken will burn." But in the Spanish sentence, me is in the position of an idirect object when what seems to be needed is a simple possessive adjective. What am I missing?

I would translate that sentence as "the chicken's gonna burn on me".

Other examples with similar patterns:

Se me rompió el vaso. (The glass broke on me)

Se te acabó la leche. (The milk ran out on you)

(My sister's keys got lost on her)

Here the indirect object ME it referring to ME. It is my responsibility not to burn the chicken, so this is why we use SE ME VA A QUEMAR EL POLLO. Meaning that you will burn the chicken.

You could have also said SE VA A QUEMAR EL POLLO. Without the ME part but it is just making emphasis that it was you who burn it.

Have I explained myself clearly? Let me know.
