Hi all Porbar vs. Probarse
For users who have all ready studied reflexive verbs. Something I just learn tonight from my favorite grammar book A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish. Probar is to try something like food prueba el pastel – “try the cake”.
Probarse “means to try on”. Like in this dialog: Pues pruébate la M, burro.
“Then try on a medium”.
Hola! Me gusta ir de compras. La pregunta del día es: ¿Qué talla eres?
Yo soy mediana, pero depende del país en China a veces soy grande.
Hey!, I like to go shopping. The question of the day is: What size are you?
I am a medium, but it depends on the country in China sometimes I am a Large.
Liliana! Bad girl! How do you dare to ask our users those kind of personal questions!
Yo uso extra-chico!
I'am an XS!
hahahahahaha
Leo, no te creo! hahaha
Yo soy mediana igual que Lili, y soy una "shopaholic" tambien, haha
hay una palabra "shopaholic" en español??
Cuando viajo a Mazatlan, Mx, se usan tallas differentes: Small es chico: Medium es Mediano: Large es Grande.
(When I travel to Mazatlan, Mx, they use different sizes: Small is chico, Medium is Mediano: Large is Grande)
!Yo no voy a compartir mi talla!
(I'm not going to share my size)
no sé mi talla, Yo tendría que preguntar mi sastre
I dont know my size, i would have to ask my tailor.
Linda_ntic
una comprahólica??
donperigo es justo como tendría que preguntarle a mi peluquera si tengo alguno pelo gris:)
its just like I would have to ask my hairdresser if I have any gray hairs.
nice, the guy is makes me mad though
Mi talla es mediano, pero a veces necesito large o grande. Aqui en Peru, muchas veces las tallas son small, medium, y large! Pero, a veces tiene que saber su talla europea.
Mi talla es grande - o - L.
JP
You explained very well why probarse was used instead of probar. Somehow I did not hear it the first time I listened to the podcast and posted the comment on the top of this thread. Sorry about that.
stevestrv, no apologies! This is our community, you're free to explain all the Spanish you want here!
Actually, the more you explain Spanish, the more insights you gain. I learned that in my first year of teaching ;)
Thanks JP
¿Cuál es la palabra para la habitación en una tienda donde se pruebe las ropas?. Yo estaba en España este verano y se utiliza, pero ahora no puedo recordar.
hola melodycooper
creo que la palabra es: vestidor (dressing room)
Melodycooper
Puedes decir "vestidor" como dice mztish, o lo que es aun mas correcto es "probador".
La solo palabra que no entiendo en este lugar es "burro" es "donkey" no?
profhiggins, it looks to me like you understood it perfectly!
Remember, if someone calls you a burro, it's not the same as being called a "jackass." The latino attitude burros is that they are stubborn and slow, but they can also be strong and helpful. So it's not all bad.
Me parece que en esta lección uds. han introducido mandatos. Que bueno que trataron de desilzarlos bajo de nuestros atención. ¿Es posible que nos den una lección entero de mandatos? Aunque los he estudiado muchas veces, no puedo recordar los.
¿O puede alguien que ha sucedido en aprendiendolo me comparte como lo acabó?
(It seems to me that in this lession, you have introduced commands. How great that you tried to "slip them in" below our attention. Is it possible to give us a whole lesson on commands? Even though I have studied them many times, I cannot remember them.)
Or can someone who has learned them share with me how they accomplished this?
Gracias Liliana y mztish,
en España , en Madrid, se utilisan probador. Ahora, lo recuerdo. Miré un largo tiempo antes de que me encontré.
Gracias Lili...no sabia la palabra "probador!"
Hola Todos
Esto es mi primero "post" en este foro.
Mi talla es mediana.
Soy mediano ? (es correcto tambien?)
Tengo tambien una preguntita.
Es "hola todos" o "hola a todos"?
Hasta luego
george
George
This is what a think:
By itself you would say "Hola Todos" this is a phrase not a complete sentence.
In a sentence with a verb you would use the "a"
Quiero decir hola a todos - "I want to say hello to everyone".
hola todos,
¡me talla S!
¿I´m I right?
azreencome
“Mi talla es s”
Or
"Soy de talla s "
'stevestrv'
thanks..
I'm lil bit confused with spanish word!
but i'll try.
muchisimas gracias!
azreencomel
No problem. The Spanish word for “my” is “mi” (singular) and mis (plural)
mi perro – “my dog”
mis perros – “my dogs”
so
mi talla es S - “my size is S”
now
“Soy de talla S” literally translates to English as “I am of size S” which does not work in English but it does in Spanish.
If I could say one last thing “S” for small works in Mexico but not everywhere. In Colombia you have to use “P” for pequeño
Hi brandon1981,
The publications engineer and I are now regenerating this lessons set of exercises to see if it clears up the problem.
In the mean time, I'm happy to say that all the lessons should be getting a new set of exercises to replace the current ones very soon; it may just be a matter of weeks. They are finished and are testing them now. Thanks for your patience!
Hi JP - re the new lessons, will that be for all the lessons or just new styles of excercises for future lessons? If it's old lessons that's quite exciting as I can go review previously studied lessons and refresh my learning (and my memory)!
rachaelt, it's my intention that all of the SpanishPod lessons, past and future, get the new, improved exercises; they should be quicker to download, more stable, and a bit more helpful to learning. We're still in the testing stages, though, so I can't say when they're going to drop. Hold tight :)
Thanks JP, that's great news!
Hola a todos! Soy de Brasil y acá hablamos pequeño, medio, grande o entonces extra-grande. Yo soy de talla medio, bien distribuyedo no? Jejejeje!
Hasta luego amigos!
Still problems with the listening exercises on this lesson. Have the new exercises finished?
cdowis
I will fix this ASAP.

Quick question about this dialogue...if you were talking to (or referring to) a woman would you say "burra" instead of "burro"? That seems weird, but I saw Liliana mention somewhere else that cat could be "gato" or "gata" and that hadn't occurred to me before. If the word "burro" is more commonly used for men, is there a different word you would be more likely to use for a woman in this situation?
Hi Sarah
Yes you will say BURRA for a woman and BURRO for a man. The thing is that GATA refering to a woman is INSULTING. It means she is a slut. That is why I said that.
Hope I answered your question.
Yes, everything is clear. I think I will stay away from the word gata. Thanks!
No worries if you have any more questions please let me know.
