The actors talk about "enciende" the air conditioner. My text uses "pone" for the act of turning the AC on. Makes more sense to me, since you're not 'firing up' the AC. Is one term more common than the other?

Hace mucho calor aqui en Puerto Vallarta pero en unas horas estare en Montreal. Me imagino que la temperatura estara muy diferente. Espero que no queda nieve...

Saying "estoy calor" means something totally different, right?

Hey Chillosk, I'm no expert but to say "estoy calor" means that you are literally hot to the touch in other words like fire. Literally you would be heat itself. "Tengo calor" literally means I have heat or a better translation is I feel hot / I am hot. I hope that helps and if someone has a better explanation feel free to respond.

Está nublado. = It is dull. No HACE BUEN tiempo EN abril. When talking about weather (tiempo) we tend to use the verb HACER, Hace buen tiempo, Hace malo, No hace muy bueno.

"Calor" is a noun: Tienes calor -- you are hot (not sexy, not spicy, just sweaty hot from the environmental temperature) or: Hace calor -- it is hot (only referring to weather) "Caliente" is an adjective: el agua caliente -- the hot water. You can also talk about weather with this word: el clima caliente -- the hot climate. Para mí, hoy en tu país hace demasiado calor! Hope this helps!

In the vocabulary desodorante is listed as a adjective. I would have thought it would be a noun. Is there a reason why it is an adjective? Prefiero el frio que el calor, no me gusta sudar. En el invierno, tu puedes ponerse un sueter.
