Hola todos, did youl like my conch impression? So "Sopa de caracol" is both a soup (think a tropical version of clam chowder) and a famous Punta song. Here's the video!

WOW!! I haven't heard this song in a really really long time. When I was a kid in Santo Domingo my cousins and I used to dance along to this all the time. Thank goodness I've never seen the video before now. There are just waaaay too many thong/bikini shots for my taste.

It's amazing to discover that there is some black communities on the east coast of the central American countries as Belize, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and as they mentioned in the podcast, Honduras! very nice podcasts btw! I guess I wasn't aware of cultural richness of Honduras.

Lilliana.. thanks for remembering my trip to Honduras! I'm actually going to be flying in to San Pedro de Sula, and then heading right to Copan Ruinas for several weeks to study. I can't wait to try those foods!

Hello Everyone:

Honduras was FANTASTIC. And my Spanish was good enough for traveling around in buses, and also for political discussions with other pupusa eaters until late at night.

Here is the famous Sopa de Caracol:

Sopa de Caracol

Here is a beautiful mangrove with birds, alligators and bats:

And here is one of the zillion of Colonial churches I saw:

I sent a postcard to Lili, but I'm not sure it will arrive (the country is quite agitated right now).

I 100% recommend Honduras if you want to visit a beautiful, friendly, safe and inexpensive Latin country. You will NOT meet many tourists or gringos.

Saludos,        S. de la P.

Si, la sopa es bien rica, y servida con "pan de coco." Ustedes deberian de visitar Honduras.

(It's funny, I'm always willing to start speaking Spanish, but writing makes me very self-conscious.)

The soup is like what we call "Bisque" in the USA, creamy and curried, but mild (of course, you can add picante...)

Thank you for all your work to help us with our Spanish.

¡Me gustó esta lección! Though, who am I kidding, I liked just about every one I've listened to, haha. And it's also very nice to be able to just sit back and relax once in a while with for example a Del Taco al Tango lesson, inbetween all the Newbie and Elementary lessons I do. :D

¡Esa foto de Sopa de Caracol en verdad me hace hambre!

Random question: Does en verdad and de verdad mean the same thing?

obviously I know nothing but I believe that, en verdad = "in truth" and sounds a little stiff to some as it does in english though having said that i use "in truth" all the time but then i'm odd. de verdad  is more like "for real" (really) which is a bit hipper and up to date.

i also believe that in spanish you arent hungry you have hunger so things dont make you hungry they give you hunger "me da hambre"

but then im almost certainly wrong. check out some of the discussions at the foot of this wordreference page.

Ah, yes, donperigo, I wasn't sure if hace hambre was correct at all, given it's tener hambre. Thank you for responding and correcting. :)
