Remember Me
Lesson Introduction

So are you going to introduce me to your friend? Today in the big podcast, we finally get to meet Jorge's friend Xiao Wu, about whom he's been talking about incessantly. She's a true Newbie at Spanish, but she knows enough to graciously answer "nice to meet you..." Good thing we all speak a little Chinese.

Can I ask a quick question?  How is the word Mexico written in Mexico today?  Is it Mexico or Mejico?

Thank you

In the expansion,

No es poco hablado.
(It's widely spoken.)

this seems like the old left handed compliment.

Is this common usage, like the midwestern "that's not too bad" for "hey that's nice"

¡Hola todos!

Pregunta del día...

¿Conoces a alguien que no habla inglés?  Do you know anyone who doesn't speak English?

Mi señora de limpieza no habla inglés.  Nos comunicamos en chino.  My cleaning lady doesn't speak English.  We communicate in Chinese.

I really have to think about this sentence.  This seems a backwards way to say "It's widely spoken".  Is this another way to say "It's widely spoken".

My girlfriend’s nephew is visiting us from Colombia and he speaks very little English.  What an opportunity to practice.

RLKantor,

On Windows, you go to the control panel, keyboard and add a keyboard layout. ) Mx spanish (you can check the windows help files)

In Ubuntu Linux System-preferences-keyboard-layout tab-add layout (again, Mx spanish)

The letter and number keys stay put, the ;: key becomes ñ and the [{ key becomes the ' key adding accent aigue and on shift the " umlat to the next keystroke if it is a vowel. áéíóúÁÉÍÓÚ

There are pictures of keyboard layouts

In both windows and Ubuntu an abreviation appears in the toolbar, clicking on it moves you to the next keyboard in your list of keyboards.  (in windows, the shift-left alt combo toggles the same action from the keyboard)

este frase en la seccíon expansion es dificil para mí   "no es poco hablado" = it is widely spoken.

no + poco = no lack of???

tienen otros ejemplos cuando se usan este combinación de palabras "no + poco"?

sería posible decir: no hay poco dinero aquí = there is no lack of money here?

This is in response to stevestrv regarding "Mejico".  I was in Puebla Mexico last year and I wrote it "Mejico" in my journal.  Everyone laughed at me.  However when we went to the museum near Chapultapec we descovered that "Mejico" is a very old spelling that was used in the 1800's.  We saw it on a Mexican army banner from the 1800's.

catherineruns, parar+de+infinitivo= to stop+verb -ing

No para de hablar de ella.

No para de hacer tonterías.

Para de comer.

Es mejor que pares ya de andar.

parar = to stop

Para el coche.

He dicho que pares.

¿Cuándo piensas parar?

kikuyu, "No es poco hablado" or "No es un idioma poco hablado". =It's not a little spoken language.

Es poco hablado. / No es poco hablado. or Se habla mucho.

Es poco usado./ No es poco usado. or Se usa mucho.

Es poco conocido./ No es poco conocido. or Es muy conocido.

No hay poco dinero. Yes, you can say that, it is an ironical way of saying that in fact there´s plenty of money.

stevestrv and gsokolow, let me tell you La Real Academia de la Lengua Española accepts tow ways to write mexican, so both are correct.

1.- mexicano/ mexicana

2.- mejicano/ mejicana

But they just accept México and not Méjico.
