Hola

The question of the day:

¿Te rasuras todos los días?

Do you shave every day?

There is a bug on the audio review, will fix it as soon as possible, apologies.

I shave every day. I used to wear a beard in my Twenties but I had to shave when I started working in a clean-room making printed circuit boards. maybe it's time to grow a new one.

A que te dedicas? No entiendo que quiere decir " circuitos impresos". ¿Tiene que ver algo con la tecnología?

aqui tienes circuitos impresos

here you go, printed circuits

In those days i worked in screen printing and the new technology of the day was membrane switches.

I noticed this in the expansion section
"No me gusta tu barba"
why does a beard get a posessive pronoun when a head doesnt

(Before, I had to shave frequently.  But after lasar hair removal, I don't have to shave anymore.  What freedom!)

The "audio review" of this lesson, and others, is very sloppy. The words are cut off mid-syllable, the sound is poor. Am I the only one who minds?

You are right they are very sloppy. We have been having problems with the audio review all week because the change of system. We changed the back-end file systems and they have some problems, they do not recognize the audio files, so the tech team is working on it.

I apologize for this, but they are working on it.

As soon as it fixed I will let you guys know.

Both, barba and cabeza get a posessive pronoun

tu barba / tu cabeza

gracias yenny,

I was thinking about "me duele la cabeza."
What about ojos? i know song writers dont have a problem with tus ojos but ive been led to believe that in everyday usage one should refer to bodyparts impersonally

can one say

le gusta mi barba or does it have to be la barba in the first person.

me pica tu barba  or  me pica la barba or even me pica mi barba

salairedelapeur

no you are not alone. Ive always felt the audio review isnt checked for quality.
sorry lilli but this isnt a new thing sometimes the questions are given as anwers, the wrong word is used in the sentence, ends get chopped off "now lets speed it up" is no faster than the original list etc etc i suspect it need someone to take personal ownership of the final product as it sounds to me like something made by a committee who dont subscribe to the audio flashcard concept.

@donperigo, @nancyann, thanks, I was afraid I was the only one who uses “afeitar” instead of “rasurar”. :)

@lilianamata, years ago I used to shave myself with a straight razor (for about a year – it’s a skill a man should have, right? ;) ), and I’ve also been shaved by a barber (with a straight razor), just a few months ago. Being shaved by a barber is an enjoyable experience but honestly, when I did it myself it usually turned out better than when the barber did it. He was certainly more skilled than I am, but (by law here) he had to use a disposable razor, which was much lower quality than mine.

And if you’re wondering, yes, straight razors really are as sharp as they say. Only thing sharper would be a scalpel (and yeah, we have some of those too :) ).

Hola donperigo,

Creo que es: Me pica la barba. My beard is itchy.

Me pica tu barba. Your beard is scratching me.

I  think that when you use a reflexive verb, you do not use a possesive pronoun because you are speaking about yourself.

brilliant! gracias oohh im having a lightbulb moment.....processing......processing......update complete.

why has noone pointed this out before? or have i just been too stupid to understand the jargon. so without a reflexive in the mix, you can say

i can see the light of love in your eyes

you dont have to say something bizarre like

i can see the light of love within you the eyes

however, part of your body cant act independantly, so if your leg itches then its "you" who has an itch in the leg. having already specified that its "you" the possessive pronoun is redundant

well thats perfectly sensitive  sensible and logical, once again ive been labouring under a misaprehension. or have i?

(when I ran this through Babelfish, it translated the last sentence as 'I dont only shave on weekends' which is the opposite of what I mean.  I think Babelfish has it wrong, but am not sure.  Is there a better place to put the word solo or the word no?)

poor babelfish.  "I also have to shave for work therefore I only dont shave at weekends"  sounds a tad muddled in either language :-)

I believe this is an english problem there is a confusion between i can, not do something and i cannot do something which have completely different meanings

hows about

if you are really wedded to only at weekends can i not shave id try sólo with an accent but the "not" will always be ambiguous so its best to give it a positive spin,

ask not what your negatives cant not do for you, ask what you can do instead.

donperigo,

Excellent points - I especially like the distinction between can, not and cannot.  Something for me to think about as I drive to work today...

There is a distinct possibility my English composition skills will improve with all this.

Hi Lili

Under key vocabulary, "rasurase" is given as a masculine noun. Should it be a reflexive verb ?
