¿Nos pueden dar unos ejemplos más de "no poder con él/ella"?  ¿Se puede traducir como "to not be able to handle something?

¿Se puede decir algo tal como "La comida inglesa? No, no puedo con ella!"?

Pregunta del día:  ¿Te dan miedo las películas de horror?  ¿Qué tipo de película prefieres ver?

Yo no soporto las películas de horror, estoy super miedoso.  Prefiero películas con super heroes o películas de ciencia ficción. 

Hace poco tiempo vi Kung Fu Panda, Semi-Pro, Jumper, y la nueva de Indiana Jones.

Por fin he encontrado un lugar buenisímo donde puedo  preguntarles..  Por favor, me podría explicar cuál es el significado de primer frase, sobre todo ¨No poder con con él/ella¨. Perdoname por molestia..

1.- No la soporto, no puedo con ella.

2.- Tienes un morro que no puedes con él.

3.- Me desespera, no puedo con él.

4.- Tienes unas ojeras que no puedes con ellas.

Cuando yo era niña vi por primera vez la película “To Kill a Mockingbird.”  Me gustó mucho, pero desde aquel día tengo un poco miedo de ver por las noches los árboles, bajo la luna, proyectan unas sombras en un portal.  Siempre pienso en los muchachos de la película, andando en las tinieblas, miedosos de que Boo les hiciera daño.  Todavía me da escalofríos que no puedo con ellos (?).

1 - I can't stand her, I can't deal with her

2 - you've got such nerve, and it shows

3 - He frustrates me, I can't stand him

4 - You've got bags on your eyes that you can't hide

Yay, thank you Esti, I was scared for a moment because there seems to be different meanings, one being "I can't stand ___" and the other being "you can't hide ___".

No me gustan las películas de miedo. Sólo he visto pocas, vi la nueva de Jessica Alba "The Eye" y está muy mala. La que me gusta mucho es "Sexto Sentido" con Bruce Willis.

Nunca  vi la pelicula “Quijadas” (Jaws) y nunca la veré.  Es mejor si no leo ningún artículo sobre los ataques de tiburones ni ver documentales sobre tiburones. Me gusta disfrutar mi tiempo en el mar sin tener imágenes de los tiburones en mi cerebro.  No puedo con ellas. I can't handle those images.

No me gustan la pelicula de horror tampoco. Pero mi esposo te gustan las peliculas de suspenso y el quiere siempre por mi ir. Yo dije a el, No quiero ir.

Alguna veces yo voy con el, pero en la pelicula 'The Grudge' yo hube mantenido mis ojos cerrados el todo tiempo.

Y ahorita, el quiere ver la pelicula 'The Happening'. No se, pero yo pienso que me asustaré tambien.

Y el otro cosa es, yo no me gusta la musica de las peliculas de horror. Possiblemente, si habia no musica espeluznante, yo no me asustaría.

A mi tambien me gusto mucho la pelicula "Sexto Sentido"

Estoy de acuerdo, "Sexto Sentido" es una película muy buena. También me gustó la película "Los Otros" del director español Alejandro Amenábar, que esta parecida a la primera en cuanto al tema principal.

Terminé ahora de ver la película "El Orfanato" (enlace 1 - enlace 2). Mucho mucho suspense (estoy todo sudado), pero muy buena. Aconsejo que la veáis.

Por favor, una pregunta.  ?En la expansion de verbo tratar, que es el modo del verbo tratar?

"No creo que tratase de espitiritus...."

?Porque no se usa presente del subjunctivo despues de "no creo"?  ?Por ejemplo trate?

jbmyoung, El imperfecto subjuntivo tiene dos formas diferentes. El que se utiliza en la sección de expansión es la forma más común que se usan en España.

"trate" es la forma presente del subjunctivo. 

Gracias, Kikuyu, por su respuesta, pero, si usa "creo" en el presente, ?no es mandatario usar el presente del subjunctive siguiendo esto?

jbmyoung,  porque estan hablando de la película que habían visto. (un evento en el pasado) They are saying what the movie was about.  (No estoy totalmente segura.)

I believe that you are correct.  The verb tense has to agree through out the sentence.  So if you want to say that you currently do not believe an action in the past, you would use the simple present and present perfect subjunctive (haber in the present subjective followed by a verb's past participle.  For example – No creo que la película se haya tratado de espíritus – I don’t think that the movie was about sprites.   Check out this web page

stevestrv, I think that present perfect subjunctive suits better with actions well delimited in their timing, e.g. No creo que la pélicula haya empezado a la hora convenida. But with things not well linked to a specific time, like a movie being about something, I think the imperfect subjunctive could be the best choice: No creo que la película tratase de espíritus.

Just my opinion, let's wait for SPod crew.

Fabrizio you may be correct, but I did not think that you can mix present and past tenses.  Hopefully the Spaninshpod team will clear this up.

I do not think you can mix "no creo" (present) and "tratase" (past).

I might be wrong but I think that all Spanish verb tense belong to one of two groups – present/future is one and past is the other.   I think that all verb tense in any given sentence can only come for one the two groupings.

The present/future grouping includes - present indicative, future, present subjective, present perfect, future perfect, present perfect subjunctive.

The past grouping includes – imperfect, preterit, conditional, imperfect subjunctive, pluperfect, preterit perfect, conditional perfect.

Like I said, I may not be correct.  If anyone thinks this is wrong, please let us know.

stevestrv and fabrizio, let me tell you that you can say: No creo que tratase de espíritus.Of course you can mix the tenses.

"No creo", because you think it the moment you´re speaking (present), and "tratase" because it is a supposition, something you´re not sure about (subjunctive).

Los determinantes y sustantivos al igual que los adjetivos y los sustantivos, concuerdan siempre en género y número. Por ejemplo, las películas, la película, películas interesantes, película interesante.

Of course Esti is correct, and I was trying to write a retraction of my earlier comment when I saw that she answer us.    I do belive that there are times when you do not mix past and present tenses.  For example, I do not think that you can say espero que él llegara ayer  instead you must say espero que él haya llagado ayer.  Is this because the action (his arriving) in the past is making me happy in the present?

stevestrv, different ways to say this, using different tenses,

You can say, espero que haya llegado or espero que ya haya llegado, but not if you include de "ayer". Meaning you hope he has arrived, but you doubt it, you´re not sure.Present perfect subjunctive.

Pretérito, creo que llegó ayer,I think he arrived yesterday. You´re almost sure he arrived yesterday.

Imperfect subjunctive, esperaba que llegase ayer,I was hoping him to arrive yesterday. You were willing him to arrive yesterday but he didn´t.

Pluferfect subjunctive, esperaba que hubiera llegado ayer. I was hoping he had arrived yestesday. You were willing him to arrive yesterday but he didn´t.

The last 2 examples are pretty much the same, but one of them adds a slight diffrence in the mood of who is saying it. In the 2nd one, you were really expecting him to arrive and you´re a little sad because he didn´t.

But what about "I hope he arrived yesterday"?  We can say that in English, hoping that yesterday someone arrived.  Similar to "I hope he sent the letters last week".

What would those be?

Espero que ayer llegó?  Espero que ayer llegara?  Espero que ayer hubiera llegado?

Espero que la semana pasada enviara las letras?

Se dice, "Espero que haya llego ayer". "Espero que haya mandado las cartas la semana pasada". Entonces la formula es: Presente del subjuntivo del verbo haber (haya) + verbo en participio.

Espero me corrijan si estoy mal en cuanto a la formula.

Me gustan ver muchas tipas diferentes de las peliculas pero mis favoritas están los peliculas de suspense.  Anoche vi "Juega Neblinoso Para Mi" con Clint Eastwood.  Era muy bien.

Mi película de miedo favorita es "The Others."

Pero me gustan más que todos las peliculas familiares de dibujos animados -- los de Disney o de Dreamworks, por ejemplo.
