Hola

La pregunta del día:

¿Cuánto pagas por estacionamiento?

Yo no pago nada porque no tengo auto, tengo bici y a veces cobran 10 centavos de dolar.

Yo tampoco pago nada porque trabajo con practicantes en varias escuelas de la ciudad.  ¡Estaciono mi carro en la calle y no tengo que pagar nada!

I don't pay anything either because I work with student teachers in several schools in the city.  I park my car in the street and I don't have to pay anything!

No huésped implies only when u stay at a house or hotel, but not for dinner. For dinner they are your invitados.

parquímetro = parking meter

Hasta una semana,  manejé a Minneapolis, para encontre un amigo desde Los Ángeles, que trabajó alli por various dias.  Estaciono en la calle por un parquímetro, y me cobré $0.25 para cada diez minutos.

A week ago, I drove to Minneapolis to meet a friend from Los Angeles who was working there for several days. I parked at a meter on the street and paid a quarter for every ten minutes.

Mi casa no tiene un camino de entrada.  Afortunadamente, no pago por estacionamente, pero mi coche necesita una licencia gratis para estacionar en la calle enfrete de mi casa.

My house does not have a driveway.  Luckily, I don't pay for parking, but my car needs a free permit to park on the street in front of my house.

I noticed gratuito was used in the dialog, instead of gratis.  When do we use gratuito vs gratis, and what's the difference?

Rodneyp,

I went hunting.

gratis can be either adverb or adjective

while gratuito is only used as an adjective.

Gratuito, is somewhat more formal when used in lieu of gratis, and can have the meaning unwarrented, or gratuitous in certain contexts.

examples given of the adverb usage:

"Voy gratis al cine."
No podrias decir, "Voy gratuito al cine."
O, "Yo comi gratis en este restaurante una vez.
No podrias decir, "Yo comi gratuito en este restaurante una vez."

No pago nada por estacionamiento a mi trabajo. Tengo suerte porque mi amiga tiene parking gratis al trabajo sino no lo usa, así que yo lo uso.
