Do you have any funny story involving a nurse?
One of my best friends is a nurse. Once I went to have a blood test made (something that really scares me), and there she was her to do it, but I knew she has never done it before... I almost started crying but I had to smile instead in order to keep our friendship :)
I like that style of teaching! wish my profs be loke you :)
I don't have a funny nurse story, but when I was a little girl, I wanted to be a nurse.
A few years ago, I had some intenstinal problems and had to have a colonoscopy. I was nervous and embarrassed to go to the procedure. Finally, when I was in the room, two nurses came in, one was an old friend who I knew from high school and the other was my Mom's good friend. They talked about me, and talked about how we knew each other, while I lay on the table and died ....
It didn't feel very funny at the time
When I was a kid this nurse showed me a big needle that was supposed to be for taking blood, and man you would think that it will take all my blood to the last drop, she said it would be ok, I closed my eyes with a drop of tear dropping from my eye from fear, it didn't feel anything, few seconds and she was wondering why was I there? I looked around and HEY it was over, I asked you finished? she said look there and it was a sack half full with my blood, I thought that was easy!!!.
Hi SpanishPod... it made me smile when I heard my name. I agree. Suero is an interesting word and I remember very well when I worked as a student (before studying medicine) en a clinic in Bolivia and we always gave suero to the patients. I would ask myself, "What is that liquid that everyone gets?" Now I know it as:
IV fluids or saline or if it is given by orally, it is called rehydration fluids.
Question, DocMolly,
Do all the IV fluids fall under that term. Like D5W and the high molecular "soups" like Rheomacrodex™ (sp)? What do you say when they hang plasma, or blood. Sangre?
Gracias.
I use suero as a more generic word to mean IV fluids. If I were going to give someone blood I would say sangre.
Gracias amiga.
In English we say heart attack, but the doctor writes Latin in the chart "Myocardial infarction" do they do that in Spanish too?
and what do you call the patient's chart?
Hi Cobre,
When speaking with a patient I would say heart attack or ataque al corazón. The medical term would be infarto cardíaco.
For medical record or chart, could say: Historial médico o historia clínica.
Enfermera es my horrible en mi opinion.
Ojala no vaya a hospital a la vida
I am confused about when to use por and when to use para. Can you also say "Voy para uno nuevo"?
