Remember Me
Lesson Introduction

In the big podcast today, Esti and Carmen join JP to answer questions about "hoping against hope," how to address a lady if you don't know if she's married, the difference between to "ocultar" and "esconder," and finally, why you SHOULDN'T use a reflexive pronoun with "meter la pata."

Gracias por sus respuestas.
Thank you for the heads up that my transliteration didn't work.

hacerse solutiones en vano
hacerse solutiones sin tener posibilidades
las ilusiones es la ultimo que separe

Interesting that last. JP translated it as the common English phrase, “hope is the last thing to go” but the phrase actually says, “hope is the last that would know”  I think that is so cool. It is a nice changeup pitch,  and should work well to salt a story written  in English.

to hope against hope

These are hopes pressing, crowding, pushing each other on to victory or stacked against the door lest reality creep in.  They are fans crowding the gate for the last ticket. One wins.

While the above phrases do well in the preterit (all things seem so much clearer there) I don't understand how they express the incredible optimism or desperation of the moment.

I accept that the concept is hard to express, and I thank you for the tools.  I haven't given up just yet, I'll give it another try.

Cobre, I believe the expressions were as follows-

"Hacerse ilusiónes en vano"

"Hacerte ilusiónes sin tener posibilidades"

"La ilusión es la último que se pierde"

(That is how I heard them, anyway...)
