Me encanta, me encanta, me encanta Spanishpod.com - y mis estudiantes en grado siete y ocho en Chester, NH, tambien! Pero, digame, por favor, como escribir accentos y punctuacion en mi computadora, especialmente en comment boxes like this, homeworknow.com, etc.? There must be an easy way! Muchas gracias!
If you are a Window's user it's pretty easy.
1. Open Control Panel, and Regional and Language Options.
2. Select the Language tab, and hit the Details button.
3. Make sure Spanish (Mexico) is one of your installed services, and if it's not, add it.
4. Hit the Language Bar button, and make sure it is shown in the task bar.
Now, whenever you need to type Spanish diacritics, just hit alt+shift to convert your keyboard. Then...
; = ñ
= = ¿
shift+= = ¡
[thena = á
[thene = é
[theni = í
[theno = ó
[thenu = ú
When you're done, hit alt+shift to convert back to an English keyboard.
Thank you Lili.

I am an retired expat living in the Dominican Republic, my wife and daughter live here with me. My wife is Dominican and my daughter who was born in the States and is ten, is fluent but I can't speak the language that well. I find that the Dominican spanish is very different than spanish is other countries. I guess this is more of a statement than a question.

Hola. Si yo dijera decir “Para llegar a tú casa pasé por el parque.” ¿Sabrías porque es “para llegar” y “por el parque”?
If I were to say “Para llegar a tú casa pasé por el parque.” , would you know way it is “para llegar” end “por el parque”?
Quizás los enlaces abajo puedan ayudarte.
Maybe the links below can help you.

I take it that the question about the letter "y" was about how to pronounce it when reciting the alphabet in Spanish and not how it is prounced within a word?
Also,I take it that in Northern Mexico where Leo is from it is pronounced pretty much like the word "Yo"..Spanish for "I" ? [I love the sound of that word btw].Does this variation in pronouncing "y" flow into how "yo" is pronounced and other words?
Finally the above introduction has:
"How do you pronounce the /y/ and the /ll/?"
..did I miss something here?..I couldn't catch when /ll/ was discussed.Also,what's the deal with the // around y and ll ? Is that the Spanish equivalent of English's inverted commas [ " ...." ] ?
Cobre,

stevestr,

bababardwan I have no ideaif // is commonly used as ""
Bababardwan,
About /-/ --
Linguists use this symbol to describe the sounds (or phonemes) of a particular language. In this case, however, it isn't really being used in a technical sense; it is just meant to indicate that we're talking about the way people pronounce the sounds represented by the symbols 'y' and 'll' in Spanish.
Does that help?
anaa8,
Si,it does help very much.Muchas gracias. :)
