Solo he sido aqui un poco mas de un mes pero te voy a extrañar JP y Esti mucho. 

JP tienes un estilo muy amistoso que me hace disfrutar de cada lección.  Tu conocimiento de la gramática y tu capacidad de enseñar han sido de gran ayuda.

Esti, no tu he oído tanto, porque escucho sobre todo las lecciones fáciles pero he disfrutado de su actuación en los lecciones.

¡Recuerdos a ambos!

Aunque solo llevo 1 ó 2 meses escuchando al equipo de Studio Fiesta, tengo los mismos sentimientos que los otros usarios...los voy a extrañar JP y Esti.

if ni que = as if, does one always need to follow it with the imperfect subjunctive like como si?

Etsoy muy confundido.  aqui nos has dicho que no se peude hablar del pasado con el tiempo presente pero en este podcast que sí que puedes.

Lo que entiendo es que el ni que siempre resulta in el uso del sujuntivo. 

I think of the sarcasm inherent in what's said that  triggers the subjunctive:

Ni que fueras millonario! (As if you were a millionaire!)

Ni que te estuviera cortando! (As if she was cutting you! or It's not like she was cutting you!) 

This was actually said in our clinic today by an unsympathetic companero who watched his friend squirm as he got his sutures removed from a recent surgery.

The part about using the present for past actions is news to me too, except that I just saw it being done in a book that I'm reading.   

brandonl and donperigo, the use of present tense for past actions is a storytelling device; it can be used in history books, novels, or when you're telling someone a story and you want to be extra dramatic .  However, it's not a normal way to talk about what you did in the past.  Hope that helps!

That makes sense.  In the book I mentioned, the tone of voice of the storyteller was something along the lines of, "...and he was all...and she was like...blah blah blah." - very informal. 

JP hmm, then it sounds like ive been labouring under a misaprehension

so would it be true to say that, exactly as in english, one can use the present tense to relate a story in a more immediate mode and that spanish speakers would have no trouble understanding what you were doing. or is this very unusual trick that most spanish speakers would find odd?

donperigo, I would say it's more common in Spanish than in English :)

But if someone asks you what you did yesterday, the normal way to respond is to use the various past tenses.  Launching into a present tense narration is a little dramatic ;)

Yo habia creido que "histeria" era una palabra bastante recente,  de los sicólogos del siglo XIX que refiere a una condición femenino pero parece que es más antigua.

gracias a jp y esti.  he disfrutado mucho aprender espanol con jp y esti. llevo solo un ano y media estudiando y creo que mucho de lo que he aprendido es debido de spanishpod.
