Can someone give me an example of how to use lucir in a sentence? it's in the vocab list at the end of the dialogue, but I thought it meant something other than 'to look' and I don't have a clue how to use it!!! Just started to teach myself Spanish. Here is a little help with English. To complement is to cause to make something else better as in: Your shoes are a nice complement to your dress. To compliment is to say something nice for example: Your shoes look very nice.

These are good examples of the difficulty in learning english.

compl-E-ment, es como se usa en la matemática geométrica, es el pedazo que si se anadas al resto, él completa la figura.

Now that I am attempting to learn Spanish, i realize that I do not understand my English either!!

I understand 'complement' more in the context of the right wine 'complementing' a fine dish, or the correct seasoning 'complementing' the flavour.

However....I now wonder why a small free gift, such as perhaps a chocolate on the pillow (in a hotel) is called a 'compliment'? It is 'complimentary', but not a flattering appraisal of the guest (or is it?)
