La pregunta del día:

¿Te consideras guapetón o guapetona?

Do you consider yourself a handsome dude or beautiful gal?

Do you usually complement people?

¿Haces cumplidos usualemente?

Yo hago muchos cumplidos. Es parte de mi personalidad. Y si me siento guapetona! Porque no! Es bueno sentirse atractivo.

I usually complement people. It is part of my personality. And I do feel beautiful, why not! It's good to feel attractive.

Como dice el dicho: ¡El que puede, puede! ja ja ja....

Es cierto que en nuestra cultura son normales los cumplidos, además de que gustan mucho dan motivación.

Si haces cumplidos por aqui, concluirán que:

Te burlas de ellos
Quieres prestar dinero
Intentas vender algo
Eres un hombre verde

round here if you compliment people they will conclude that.

you are mocking them,
you want to borrow money
you are trying to sell something
you are a dirty old man

marco_m says

Quieres prestar dinero = You want to lend money.

Quieres pedir dinero prestado = You want to borrow money.

"Eres un hombre verde" = Eres un viejo verde!

Tengo unas preguntitas...

Can someone give me an example of how to use lucir in a sentence? it's in the vocab list at the end of the dialogue, but I thought it meant something other than 'to look' and I don't have a clue how to use it!!! Is it the same as verse?  'Luces guapeton'?  (As opposed to lucir la television)? Gracias!!!! Jennie

Just started to teach myself Spanish.  Here is a little help with English.  To complement is to cause to make something else better as in: Your shoes are a nice complement to your dress.  To compliment is to say something nice for example: Your shoes look very nice.

These are good examples of the difficulty in learning english.

kwdieo,

compl-E-ment, es como se usa en la matemática geométrica, es el pedazo que si se anadas al resto, él completa la figura.

compl-E-ment, is like the use in mathematics (geometry) it is the part that if you add it to the rest, completes the figure.

Please excuse me, I feel out of my league here!

Now that I am attempting to learn Spanish, i realize that I do not understand my English either!!

I understand 'complement' more in the context of the right wine 'complementing' a fine dish, or the correct seasoning 'complementing' the flavour.

However....I now wonder why a small free gift, such as perhaps a chocolate on the pillow (in a hotel) is called a 'compliment'? It is 'complimentary', but not a flattering appraisal of the guest (or is it?)

That is right. It means 'complimentary'.

Your English looks great to me!
