How about tierra del fuego in argentina? they speak spanish down there. Not as close as the philipines i grant you nor as balmy. do commercial flights go over antartica? or do you have to take the long way round?

There are so many commonly used words in Filipino that is Spanish but mostly spelled differently , like the days of the week (lunes, martes..), months (enero, pebrero..), colors (asul, berde..), kalye, kusina, andar, takong, sabon, trabaho, sinturon, basura, martillo.. and of course fiesta!but as JP mentioned, the Philippines is not a good place to practice Spanish.
Although Spanish was taught in colleges/universities as a required course back in the 1980's. and yes there is a move to bring it back, here's a link to the news

Spanish courses are offered in language schools. There is also language school just for Spanish-Instituto Cervantes. I just enrolled last month and I passed level 1 and start school at level 2 this Saturday! yehey!

I read some years back (maybe in a dictionary?) that the future subjunctive in Spanish only survives in certain sayings like “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Ever heard those? Do the sayings still exist?

I may be wrong but Im not sure you can use bromear con to mean "share a joke with" or "banter with" like this. if you google "bromear con" the usage seems to translate as to joke about ie bromear sobre. perhaps you need something more longwinded like...
