Hoy en Washington DC hico bastante calor, 94 grados Fahrenheit y con bastante humildad.

Calorón as the RAE says it´s calor y sofoco. Hot flashes is not calorón. They way to say hot flashes is "bochorno".

Aquí en Filipinas hace mucho calor por todas partes del año...tenemos solo la estación del verano (marso hasta julio) y la estación de la lluvia (agosto hasta febrero), pero aunque esta lloviendo en este tiempo del año, hace mucho calor, normalmente 36C - 38C.
Bueno, estamos muy acostumbrado ya y solemos ir a las playas estupendas, la más popular aquí son BORACAY y PUERTO GALERA!!

Aqui en Ucrania estamos en pleno verano, hace unos 28 grados centigrados, a veces la temperatura sube hasta 34-35 o por ahi, pero bastante rara vez.
Y bueno, la unica salvacion es el aire acondicionado. Viva la persona que lo invento!

if ..ón / óna makes something bigger and fatter how come a mouse is un ratón? i mean, lets be honest a mouse is rat lite so how come it gets to have the heavy suffix surely a mouse shoud be a ratito or is this the whole lemons and limes debacle again? :-)

I guess the seeming paradox of ratón/rata is just another reason language learning is so "interesting" (in the sense of the Chinese wish/curse, "May you live in interesting times.")
But here's a nice one that behaves the way it's supposed to: boca/bocón, mouth/great big fat mouth, or the owner of said mouth. Here it is in context from a book I read recently (La Reina del Sur, por Arturo Pérez-Reverte):
Era de los bocones. No le bastaba hacer ciertas cosas, sino que tenía necesidad de contarlas. He was one of the bigmouths. It wasn't enough for him to do certain things, he had to talk about them too.
(Interesting, my dictionary gives as a synonym for bocón, "poco discreto." This was a question in another thread, but I can't recall which.)

anna8, bocón or bocazas, both mean bigmouth. In my case, I barely use bocón.
danarei, good job with the translations, but let me explain these two:
-castañón (castaña) - big chesnut or also a big drunkenness. In an informal way "castaña" also means" borrachera".
-movidón (movida) - it's not very busy, movida in slang means lío, jaleo, alboroto, so it would be a big mess.

JP we so have words for "big heat" in English - how about it's boiling, it's baking, it's swealtering, it's scorching...? Or is that just an English thing - we don't get much heat so we have to make a big deal of it when we do!

You're right, we have a lot of adjectives that describe a "big heat." I was looking for a noun that you could say, "My goodness, what a _________ (big heat)."
The closest thing I could think of was "heat wave," but you really wouldn't say that in that sentence. I know some people can say "scorcher," as in "My goodness, what a scorcher!" but I don't really say that.
