Aquí tienen el video 19 días y 500 noches:

Desde que estamos hablando del verbo "deber" ahora mismo en nuestro  Pa' que sepas ...En la sección expansion hay la frase "Debimos haber contratado al primer candidato"= "We should have hired the first candidate" shouldn't it be..."Deberíamos haber contratado al primer candidato"?

Deberíamos is the conditional tense( kind of like “would shall”).  In the sentence "Debimos haber contratado al primer candidato"  I would have used the imperfect debíamos, I do not know why they used the present tense.  

Ups!  Corrección. Quería decir "Ya que estamos hablando..." no "desde que estamos hablando"

Debimos is the preterite.  I think that it means "we had to"  Debimos contratar al primer candidato.  We had to hire the first candidate. (without the "haber")

It is hard for me to think of a sentence with deber in the conditional but how about this:

Le deberíamos dinero si nos hubiera hecho el trabajo – we would owe (be obligated to pay money) him money if he did the work for us.

I see what you mean about debimos being in the preterite.  It seems to me if you should have done something in the past but did not take action, the imperfect should be used.  This is one of the cases where I still get confused by the imperfect and the prederite.

In fact I think that the subjunctive "hubiera + past participle" is interchangeable with "debería haber + past participle"

the example from Pa´que sepas: J.P. debería haber sido un actor could also be (también podría ser) J.P. hubiera sido un actor. He should have been an actor. 

 should have, would have, could have/ could be..it all gets a bit confusing doesn't it?

Thank you I am now just reading the comments under the Pa' Que Sepas and learning how behind the discussion my comments were.  Sometimes it is hard for me to follow what they are saying in Spanish in the Pa’ Que Sepes.  But now that I listened to it again it is clear that Esit said “deberías haber sido actor”.  I did not know that "hubiera + past participle" is interchangeable with "debería haber + past participle" but it seem that it is.  It does not make sense to me.  I guess it does not have to make sense, its language and not Calculus.   Kikuy thank you for your help.
