I'm not a specialist, but I believe that the kind of party Marco describes as a "clean" bachelorette party is called, instead, a bridal shower. It's a girl-only party with girl-food, where the bride receives household gifts. It is a very old tradition. Bachelor parties are more recent (maybe 1940s, 1950s...) and traditionally involve drinks and strippers. Bachelorette parties (an answer to bachelor parties) are a modern phenomenon. Writing this, I see what's missing: the groom party, a clean party with nice boy-food, where a groom receives tools and electronic gadgets from his friends!

Ah I did not know the difference. You are right in Mexico because sometimes women tend to be more traditional and conservative sometimes they have the bridal shower instead of the bachelorette which includes sex toys, strippers, drinks and party! In Spanish you can say DESPEDIDA DE SOLTERA for both.

Good point! Although I know of a guy who for a bachelor party went and played paintball and had only a couple of beers. Hows that for a clean party!

dos preguntas:  why is it "vamos de despidida" and not "vamos a" or "vamos por la despidida" when the english is "going for..."

also in the expansion it says "No lleves mucho dinero" means "don't carry so much money" implying the speaker has seen the amount, but it seems more like "don't carry a lot of money" would be the proper translation.

Hola

Puedes decir:

Vamos de despedida.

Vamos a la despedida.

Estamos de despedida.

Vamos por la despedida.

Todas son correctas.

En el caso de NO LLEVES MUCHO DINERO, quiere decir, don't bring so much money, don't carry so much money. Lo puedes usar si viste el dinero que lleva o bien si no has visto a la persona con el dinero en la mano.

Saludos
