Ok, I'm a Newbie when it comes to guitar playing! Any sane person might have resisted recording and podcasting our musical deficiencies, but keep in mind: When it comes to singing about Our Lady of Guadalupe, there is simply no stopping the Mexicans! : )

Excellent timing. Today, I saw a spanish infomercial on Telemundo in the States that was selling a brooch (amuleto) to give good luck. This amuleto brings you money (dinero), good health (buena salud), happiness (felicidad), a spouse (esposo/a), world peace (Paz Mundial) y heaven on earth (el cielo en el tierra). Ok, I made up the last two. They had testimonials from people and everything. ¡Qué Destacable! Anyway, if you were one of the 1st 77 people to get one, then you receive a CD with songs about La Virgen de Guadalupe and I knew what they were talking about. I wonder if this is how Bill Gates made his money? (je,je)

Tambien este ano cuando estaba en Mexico por el dia de la Guadalupe he tratado de cantar con los Mexicanos esta cancion y no canté mejor que vosotros pero lo hice de buena gona. Aunque ya sabía la historia del milagro de Juan Diego, I didn't know the rest of the history about how long it took for the church to finally be built, and the rest of the history Lili talks about over the years since that time. A related Del Taco al Tango that I would enjoy would be a presentation of the dark side of the benign, blessed Virgin, the worship of la Santa Muerte, Saint Death, that has its home in the notorious Mexico city district Tepito. La Santa Muerte, also known by other names like Santa Marta, la Flaca (the skinny one; she's often depicted as a skeleton in a cloack or a colorful dress, holding a scythe like the figure of Death) and la Madrina, the godmother (a favorite name used by criminals and prisoners. There is a hole cult following around la Santa Muerte, complete with daily offerings presented at the foot of her statue. cuban cigars, bottles of tequila, money, roses, etc.; think of Cuban Santería rituals). I've read about this alternative Virgen and found what I've learned fascinating. Others might, too. You could even do a telenovela episode resembling an American gangster program like The Sopranos, with all the characters praying to la Santa Muerte in stressful moments or being driven through crowds of poor street vendors and tough guys in their limousines to bring expensive offerings to her before a big criminal project. Just an idea. :)

Olvidé preguntar algo de Lili. Sobre, diciste esto: No somos buenos para cantar! pero nos gusto mucho esta lección! May I understand that "buenos para cantar" (or its negative, of course) is a way to say "good (or not good) at singing," as you'd put it in English? If so,that teaches me the grammar for another way of using "para." Now, as an encore, how about Fiesta Folklorico singing a couple of verses of Las Mañanitas? Vivo en Los Angeles, cual es el centro de la pop music industry. If you guys can put together a sample CD, maybe I can get you an agent and a recording contract! Can anyone tell me how to translate into Spanish the phrase "the music industry," as it's called? The music industry, the film industry, and the "entertainment" industry. The last term incluye the preceding businesses and more. GrÁcias. Should I have used the a-acute just now?

Lili, Maybe I wasn't clear in the way I asked about "no somos buenos para cantar." I wasn't confused about how to say it negatively or positively. I suspect my use of parentheses made this hard to see. But my interest wasn't in how to use the negative. I'm okay with that. What I found interesting was to learn the expression using "para" this way. We are not good in order to sing. I love it. I will no doubt use it in conversation soon, for instance to say "No soy bueno para hablar en español. Or should I say para communicarme en español? I don't quite understand the right way to use the reflexive grammar of this way of talking about talking. Instruction will be appreciated. As for Santa Martita, cool. I really do think that could make a colorful topic for one of these episodes. I think it's fascinating.

Yerdbird Sorry for misunderstanding, yes you can use "para" for a lot of things. "Soy bueno para comer", "soy malo para bailar", "soy bueno para cocinar", "soy bueno para hablar en publico" y muchos ejemplos mas.

Lili, Gracias. That's a nice new expression for me to know. I do know how to say something like yo cocino bien, but it has a different flavor, sort of sporty, to say soy bueno para cocinar, y los demás. I like the casual, conversational feeling of it.
