During this time Argentina was a dictatorship and governments throughout South America were reacting to events of the Cold War. Today we're discussing this sad chapter of Latin American history.

Este tema aburrido? ¿Cómo crees? No sólo es importante, también es muy interesante, o eso es lo que creo yo.
Sobre lo de Tlatelolco en Mexico -- yo sólo sabía que había ocurrido algo malo en 1968 en la temporada de las Olimpiadas en México hasta que, hace un año, vi la película "Rojo Amanecer". Aunque no es un documental, este film muestra en forma dramática los acontecimientos de esa época.
Después de ver la peli en México, una vez regresada a casa, iba buscando más información y encontré este programa de National Public Radio en el 40th aniversario del masacre: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=97546687
El reportaje es al inglés pero se incluyen documentos originales en español, fotos, etc. Si te interesa el tema, búscalo. Es muy fuerte, muy trágico...cómo no va a serlo?... pero cómo se dice, "Ellos que no aprenden de la historia están condenados a repetirla."

A mì me interesa muchìsimo el tema. Creo que es importante recordarnos que todos tenemos la capàz de hacer el mal (ò mantenernos en silèncio ante los hechos malos) aùnque nos veamos gente buena. Tendrà algo que ver con la tendencia natural de racionalizar nuestros hechos para poder mantener nuestras ilusiones. Ay, me costò encontrar las palabras correctas. No sè si se entienda bien.

Muchas gracias por el episodio, me ha gustado mucho. Aún sé poco de la historia y de la vida de hoy en día de Latinoamérica. La manera cómo presentéis estos temas no es nada aburrida para mí, ¡al contrario!
Evita (Eva Duarte) was the second wife of Juan Peron, in the fifties. (Peron's first wife didn't make history.) Evita died young, long before the dirty war. She was a populist, you could say.
Peron went into exile after Evita's death, and came back with a third wife, Isabel Martinez de Peron, in 1973. Peron was elected in 1973, but died shortly thereafter. Isabel was the first female president in the Americas. Isabel was much more to the right than her husband, who, himself, was more to the right in the 70s than he had been in the 50s. Isabel was a key figure in the dirty war.
Isabel Peron was deposed in 1976, and spent 5 years under house arrest before being exiled to Spain. In 2008, Spain refused to extradite Isabel to face justice in Argentina.
And you are right to recommend the movie La Historia Oficial. It is a stirring movie, and a good way to learn about that period, and about the incomplete healing which followed.

A Dios Mio, el cantautor de que no se acordaron es León Gieco (pr. hee-E-coh) que escribió Sólo le Pido a Dios....es una canción que hizo famosa Mercedes Sosa y también la leyenda norteamericana Pete Seeger. Que usen esta canción para una lección sobre el subjunctivo!!! Es muy buena, muy emocionante también.
O, otro comentario....México no era parte de Operación Condor ni la guerra sucia como insinuó el programa.
Uno más!!! Creo que este tema es suficiente complicado para merecer una serie de programas, ej?
