Hola todos,

I've probably heard every podcast from this site up until it went to a pay service. So I am finally getting around to the free trial to see what else is offered and to evaluate what level of subscription to sign up for.

I've been learning Spanish for a good number of years, but since I am basically self taught, I have a strange mix of strengths and weaknesses in my Spanish language knowledge/abilities.

Hi, every one, I am Lan(Ms.), a sales staff from Hochiminh City, Vietnam. Your SpanishPod team is great.

I am working in a good homeware and giftware company. I love Spanish immediatly once I had a chance to hear my Spanish customers talked to each other by their native language. It sounds good.

Very busy but I am trying to learn this lovely language.

There really needs to be very easily accessible clarity on what Spanish is being offered, I can't find any info on this anywhere on the site, it's tiresome searching page after page.

So European Spanish, Mexican Spanish, .... ????

February 16, 2009 from the Web.
Avatar
spanishlearners says

You will have a mix of spanish,Esti is european, Lili and Leo are mexican and lastly the master of roman languages JP. But the general idea is to have both of these. Unless you are high up on the food chain and mastered a lot of spanish and can understand the advnced media otherwise there is no point.

For your information there are words for countries that have different meanings for different countries that are neighbours (Peru, Columbia are some of these), I can assure you you will not notice these things until you are at least upper intermediate or above, better concentrate on your learning until you come to the bridge and that is a loooonnnngggg way ahead.

Also,  listen to the "Del Taco al Tango Series" for discussuions of regional differences. They often have guests from various countries so you can listen to Spaniards from Northern Spain, Spaniards from Eastern Spain, Argentinians, Peruvians, El Salvadorans, Columbians, etc.

Spanishlearners forgot to mention Marco_M our man from Ecuador who drops in quite often, though he actually works in the EnglishPod section.

Hola,

I am living in Canada where we have limited exposure to the Spanish language. I have been studying Spanish in evening classes for a few years and we focus 90% on grammar and little on everday conversation. After all this time I can read Spanish, but can´t speak it very well and have a lot of difficulty understanding it when spoken to me. I am looking forward to working with Spanish Pod.

Hi! I just want to know will there be a distinction between the latin american spanish, spain spanish, etc. during the course? I grew up from the Philippines (and now living in the US) and our spanish is more from spain. Now, I have children who have spanish classes in school and quite surprised that their pronounciation of words are different from what I grew up with, e.g., Me Llamo (she pronounce it as me jamo). 'LL' as taught to us is pronounced as 'el-ye' and she says it differently. My hubby and I would explain to her the differences and how my native language have spanish words in it. I have to brush up with my spanish for my kids and also it would provide an edge with my work.  JP..you're a Kababayan!! I know you'll understand what I'm talking about :)

It seems to me that some of the speakers have pretty heavy chinese accents. Anybody else notices that?

Interesting observation, what variety of chinese would that be? (heh heh heh)

This is episode 1.  These folks are almost fresh off the boat.

If you want to hear how much Chinese has changed Liliana's accent, compare this to one of the later lessons when she has learned chinese and cohosts a show over on chinese pod.
