Remember Me
Lesson Introduction

Traveling abroad can be stressful for some people. In today's lesson we're learning about how to greet an immigration officer. Of course, it's best to try to speak the language of the country you are visiting - it gives a great impression!

Have you ever had a problem with customs and immigration?

How do customs and immigration work in your country?

¿Hay guardas de fronteras muy amables? los que he conocido, siempre estan malhumorados.

Are there pleasant border guards? Those I've met are always grumpy.

Siempre detienen a mi hermana, quizas aparezca como mula.

They always stop my sister, perhaps she looks like a mule.

¡Pobre de tu hermana!

Normalmente no sonríen los agentes aduanales, supongo que sea para impresionar. ;)

The last time I traveled to Mexico I had a terrible time in customs. I go frequently and often take gently used toys and clothes for friends but after being in customs for 4 hours, they confiscated 2 of my bags. The luggage was worth more than the things. I tried to get an immigration agent (like a lawyer of sorts) but he told me with his fee and the costs, it would be $500. It was just so frustrating because it was senseless, but the people in aduana, mostly young people, seemed to be afraid to make a decision and kept passing it off.
