Remember Me
Lesson Introduction

You know the kids in today's dialog are so typical; full of bravado and melodrama, and you think if they had nothing to fight about, they'd invent something, just so they can make up in the end. In today's lesson, we'll hear how to express disgust with your mate... and how to kiss and make up... in Spanish.

!Qué pareja tan insoportable! Menos mal que están en casa y no en la fila detrás de nosotros en el cine cuando Tom Hanks se da cuenta de que Meg Ryan es el amor de su vida...me podrías pasar un Kleenex, por fa'?

There's a problem with the high-quality MP3 podcast. It cuts off well before the middle of the podcast. As you can see, it's listed as only 3.9MB, which is smaller than the lower-quality podcast.

Please, don't use the word "Chulo" in Mexico, men won't like it. But "Chula" for women is nice.

Why won't men in Mexico like it? What's it suggest? Also, is "cholo" a bastardization of chulo? There was a song "Lean like a cholo" that was a big hit in EEUU awhile ago. Are the words similar?

A question for JP: In the sentence "No puedo soportar más mentiras", más is an adjective. How would I modify the sentence to make it (más) an adverb? That is, to switch from the meaning of "I can't support more lies" to "I can no longer support lying" (and would I have to stick the definite article in front of "mentiras"? Gracias.

strelnikov1960, You could try the options below: Ya no puedo soportar (tus) mentiras. Ya no puedo más soportar (tus) mentiras. No puedo más soportar (tus) mentiras. You should think of "ya no," "ya no... más," and "no... más" as adverbs that come in sets that bookend the verb that they modify.

Las telenovelas no me gustan tanto. A mí, me gustan muchísimo las pelis de Pedro Almodóvar y de Ferzan Ozpetek. Del Toro me gusta también. Lo que me parece particularmente importante en las pelis es la imaginación del director. Me encanta el estilo llamado realismo mágico que es particularmente importante en la cultura latina - en el cine tanto como en la literatura. Y a ustedes, ¿que les gusta?

I have been disapointed. When I print the PDF on the first page the English comes through as garbage and then on the second page it might be the Spanish which is unreadable.

I know she's not saying that he can't tolerate the chicken!

Hola kikuyu. Lili is not saying "la pollo" but rather "apoyo", which means support or backing (either political or physical). She's distinguishing "apoyo" from "soporto" in "no te soporto"--I can't stand you.

In Mexico two women can say a man is "chulo' but calling him directly will not like it because in some places means, the man that deals with prostitutes. Cholo in Mexico referes to some Mexicans working in the United States, but is despective.

irmapico "Chulo" when we say it in Mexico is to say "cute" but it can it can also be used as telling someone he is very chulo, like "smarty pants". In the case of "cholo" in Mexico we do not use it for Mexicans working in the United States in fact it means a gang member, or someone that is dealing with drugs, prostitution or someone that can be very vulgar we call them "cholo", Depending on the context it can be despective.
