How did you find out you were going to be a Mom or a Dad?

I am not a Mom, so I don´t have a story. I can imagine it must be very exciting if you are planing to have a family, if not then it could be very stressful.

Hola kikuyu.

Yeah, you're first comment is correct.

I think it's kind of hard to get a handle on this one cause the guy is so dense.  He can't understand what' she's saying and he doesn't make any sense in his response.

Anyway, quieres, not quieras.

hypersport, gracias.  I really appreciate your input. I feel a little dense too!  But now I get it.

The reason the subjunctive is used in the dialogue is because it was triggered by "no quieres otra cosa que.."

Kikuyu dense?  Hardly!

Hey no problem, it's what I love about this community, so many regulars involved helping others.

Kikuyu

Some other examples are:

Hope this helps.

Liliana, muchas gracias. Estoy contenta haber aprendido otra estructura del subjunctivo!

Hola todos.  A ver si entiendo (no estoy seguro):

Here the clause que quieres tomar refers to something definite, since it\'s the only thing.  So the clause takes the indicative.

No quieres tomar otra cosa que no sea vino.

Here the clause que no sea vino refers to something indefinite, since we don\'t know what that thing is.  So the clause takes the subjunctive.

When i was going out with my girlfriend (now wife), in a brief exchange in english my gfriend left the room with a red face. Her mum looked on perplexed, i tried to tell her mother that her daughter was embarrassed, but not knowing the word for "embarrassed" i said "...tu hija esta embarazada..."

all hell broke lose....

Embarazada is a "false friend", a word in spanish that has nothing to do with the english "equivalent"

Another example that caught me out a lot is "constipado"...no, it does not mean you're constipated.

My wifes moment of true "embarrassment" came when i was "presenting" her to my family. Someone sneezed and my wife shouted out by instinct "JESUS!!!".....this is normal in spanish, but is first degree blashphemy in ireland...

all hell broke lose...

it'd be cool for you guys to do a lesson on "false friends" !!
