En algunas de las tiendas más pequeñas y las tiendas tendrán un ataque al corazón si se intenta utilizar un billete de $ 200.00 pesos (o más) para pagar por, digamos, una compra en pesos de $ 50.00. De hecho, en algún lugar se niegan a dejar de comprar algo porque usted no tiene el cambio correcto. Puede ser divertido o terrible dependiendo de su estado de ánimo.

In regard to asking someone to "keep the change", I know that you can say "Quédate con el cambio" or "guarde el cambio", but can you also say "Quédate con el vuelto" or "guarde el vuelto". And is one of these more common in Mexico than the other?
Also, I assume that if the waiter has forgotten to bring you your change, you can say something like "Hace falta mi vuelto/cambio?"
@expat2003: Ja! Me acuerdo tener el mismo problema cuando viajaba por Mexico hace varios años. Constante miedo. Una vez no pude usar el telefono porque tuve que guardar las monedas para pagar el autobus -- que iba a llevarnos a una ciudad más grande - donde habia cambio!

this is a good lesson to practice, the indirect obejct pronoun. it gets confusing when the me, te, le is placed in front of the conjugated verbs
