Me gustan mucho las biografias escrito por David McCullough.  He leido los tres sobre los presidentes Adams, Roosevelt, y Truman.

he leido muchas novelas de ciencia ficción y la mayoria son poco memorable pero me gustaron muchos the "sirens of titan" by kurt vonnegut jr and "the forever war by joe haldeman

Para mi, es el premier  libro que me compre como niño de nuevo años. La cuenta por Rudyard Kipling, "Capitanes intrépidos."

Mi favoritos libros está escribos de Carlos Fuentes.  Me gusta especialmente Terra Nostra y Cambio de Piel.  ( I read these in English-  don't know how to say that! ) 

Receientemente,  I have read ( he leído ? )  una muy buena novela " The People of the Book"  escrito por Geraldine Brooks.

He disfrutado tan muchos libros y autores...está muy difícil elegir.

Como un muchacho, me gustaban libros por James Michener. En los años en la universidad, me encantaban los libros por Carlos Castañeda. Ahora, disfruto libros por Robert Cornwell, Ernest Hemingway, y yo trato leer Márquez – 100 años. Por supuesto, he encantado siempre Tolkien, tambien.

El mejor dos libros que he leyendo recientemente son Pillars of the Earth y World Without End por Ken Follet. Qué fantasticos!

Mi libro favorito es Imaging Argentina escrito por Lawrence Thornton.  Es trata de los problemas en Argentina durante la Guerra Sucio en 1976

El sabueso de los Baskerville de Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

No he leído una novela tan entretenida durante muchos años y también desempeñé el papel del doctor Watson en un concurso de drama.  Fue una adaptación de un capítulo.

Por mi, mi favoritos libros está "The Twilight Saga"(by Stephanie Meyer), "Neverending Story" (by Michael Ende), "Bardic Voices" (series by Mercedes Lackey), y otros mas.

Estoy de acuerdo con melody cooper sobre People of the Book por Geraldine Brooks.  No es mi "novela favorita" (como russ huntley, he disfrutado muchos libros; no puedo eligir solo uno), pero me gusta mucho la novela de Brooks.  Es muy emocionante y bien escrito.

Una novela que me gustó mucho es "El Consuelo" de Anna Gavalda. En estos momentos estoy leyendo "El amor en tiempos del cólera" de García Márquez, una historia que me tiene enganchada ;)

Una novela que me gusto mucho es "Robber Bride" de Margaret Atwood. La novela fue requisito de curso de Literatura en la universidad. Ahora estoy leyendo, The Great Divorce de C.S. Lewis

Me gustan mucho los "Bouillon de Poulet pour l'âme des Professeurs" (I am not sure of the translation in English: Broth of Chicken for the Soul of Teachers)

to speak of possession you would use "tener"
tengo muchos libros en mi libreria.

The verb "haber" is used to speak of existance but can also be used as a helper verb in conjuction with past participles (.....ado/ido)

Since past participles do not change we need some way of indicating  who  completed the action and when. 

To do this, we can use haber in spanish and "have" in english. As helper verbs they dont add much meaning  themselves, they just provide a way to attach the extra information to the past participle.

Habiamos comido
we had eaten.

"he" is the "i have" conjugation of the verb haber used when it is working as a helper verb.
Hopefully, you can see that although you can translate
"he muchos libros" as "i have many books"
you can do so only by translating each word in isolation and even then you have not conveyed the idea of posession and have left an unresolved helper verb with nothing to help. :-(

"he" needs a past participle to complete the thought. its like an open bracket ( or inverted comma " needs a partner to complete the structure.

Me gusta leer los libros de Kathleen O'Neal y W. Michael Gear. Actualmente trato de leer “La Tribu de la Niebla” en español. Hago unas páginas a la vez y luego leí la versión inglesa “People of the Mist” para asegurarme que he entendido todo. Este es el primer libro que trato de leer en español.

Pertenezco al club de lectores “Québec Loisir” entonces compro una variedad de libros, misterios, incertidumbre, novelas románticas, novelas históricas, etc. Éstos son todos en francés, mi lengua materna.

Actualmente leo todo lo preocupado con XVII siglo Francia cuando quiero entender por qué mis ancestros dejaron Francia para venir a Canadá. Leo “La société française au XVIIe siècle” por Michel Vergé-Franceshi.

I like to read the books by Kathleen O’Neal Gear and W. Michael Gear.  Presently I am trying to read “La Tribu de la Niebla” in Spanish. I do a few pages at a time and then I read the English version “People of the Mist” to make sure I have understood everything. This is the first book that I am trying to read in Spanish.

I belong to the book club “Québec Loisir” so I purchase a variety of books, mysteries, suspense, romantic novels, historical novels, etc. These are all in French, my mother tongue.

Presently I am reading everything concerned with XVII century France as I want to figure out why my ancestors left France to come to Canada. I am reading “La société française au XVIIe siècle” by Michel Vergé-Franceshi.

@lilianamata, nunca he leido ni Gabriel García Marquez... claro que tengo que hacerlo. He escuchado muchas veces que Cien Años de Soledad es increíble.

Favoritos de mi... muy difícil.  Acabo de leer The Great Influenza por John M. Barry, lo que peudo recomender mucho, también The Making of the Atomic Bomb por Richard Rhodes. Por ficción... los libros Rain por Barry Eisler, casi todos por Neal Stephenson, completamente todos por Neil Gaiman.

Confieso que he leido The Lord of the Rings pero de verdad no me gustaba mucho. ;)

My favorites... tough question. I just finished reading The Great Influenza by John M. Barry, which I recommend highly. Also The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes. In fiction... the Rain books by Barry Eisler, almost everything by Neal Stephenson, absolutely everything by Neil Gaiman.

I confess that I’ve read The Lord of the Rings but honestly didn’t like it much. ;)

@donperigo, jajajaja – sí, es posible que es la mejor historía científica que he leído. Deseo que hayan más libros de historía así, creo que habría aprendido más de historía... ;)

The Great Influenza me ha recordado de otro buen libro: The Hot Zone por Richard Preston. Trata con viruses emergentes (specificamente ébola). No lo leas si tienes a menudo las pesadillas. ;)

@donperigo, hahahaha – yeah, it's possibly the best scientific history I've read. I wish there were more history books like it, I think I'd've learned more history... ;)

The Great Influenza has reminded me of another good book: The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. It's about emergent viruses (specifically Ebola). Don't read it if you often get nightmares. ;)

Me gusta leer mucho, entonces es muy difícil decir solo un libro favorito….creo que “To Kill a Mockingbird” por Harper Lee es fantástico, y estoy de acuerdo con Lili, me gusta “Cien años de soledad” mucho.  También me gustaba “The Time Traveller’s Wife” por Audrey Niffenberger, “My name was Judas” por CK Stead y muchos otros….

Me encantan los libros y cuentos de Issac Assimov!  Es ciencia ficcion pero es muy bueno! Lo pueden leer tanto en ingles como en español.

How can you tell where to put accent marks in words in spanish? Is it just a matter of memorization?

I know for some words it is a rule, such as in future tense, i.e. 'hablaré'

Reading and writing are the keys here.  The more you read, the more familiar everything becomes.

If you take the time to write and make sure that you are putting accents in the right places (wordreference.com) you will quickly engrain that too and you will notice when things aren't written correctly.

I think writing gets overlooked as one of the great supplements to language learning.  You can write what you hear in a dialogue pausing and writing, or you can also simply copy what you have in a book or a news article.  Write every day and watch how fast it starts to look less like a new language and more just like the English that you already know.
