¡Bien hecho!  Acabas de traducir un fragmento de "El Paraíso Perdido" de "Juan" Milton.  Es exigente en inglés ¿no?  Sin embargo, yo no usaría el subjuntivo presente con si sino el indicativo.  ¿Estás gozando de la temporada de poesía en BBC 2?

gracias, fue divertido, pero ¿como se puede indicar que el original cita  elije a usar "be" a diferencia de "am"? Milton habria podido usar "am" pero no elejió hacer lo asi.

No soy experto de la literatura y no sé concretamente por qué Milton usa be pero no creo que se pueda traducir.  Quizás tenga algo que ver con la rima interna del poema completo (véase abajo) o sólo sea su manera de enfatizar las palabras de Satanás por usar una forma menos conocida del verbo.

Es un buen libro para el verano pero es mejor que

Estoy de acuerdo con @dubhais que la rima interna será una parte importante del razón que elegió Milton esas palabras. Pero también hay un razón gramatical. Aunque no se enseñalo mucho hoy en día, inglés sí tiene el subjuntivo, y en esta frase:

if I still be the same

“be” es el indicativo del subjuntivo de “to be”. Milton lo usa en inglés igual que lo se usa en español: para insinuar que el diablo no sabe si sea igual o no. Si hubiera usado “am”, habría insinuado que el diablo sabe que sí le queda igual que antes. (ufff, ¡la gramática me matará! Seguro que he hecho errores en este español, ¡corregidme por favor! :) )

I agree with @dubhais that the internal rhyme must be an important part of the reason that Milton chose those words. However, there’s also a grammatical reason. Although it’s not taught much these days, English has the subjuntive mood too, and in this phrase:

if I still be the same

“be” is the subjunctive of “to be”. Milton uses it in English just like you use it in Spanish: to imply that the devil doesn’t know whether or not he is the same. If he’d used “am”, he’d’ve implied that the devil knows that he does indeed remain the same. (Ugh. This grammar’s gonna kill me! I’m sure I made mistakes in the Spanish, correct me please! :) )
