La pregunta del día es: ¿Qué usas más a menudo tarjeta de crédito o con efectivo?

The question of the day is: Which do you use more often credit card or cash?

Yo casi siempre pago con efectivo.

I usually pay cash.

En los Estados Unidos, pago con tarjeta de credito. cuando vivía en la India, sólo he pagado en efectivo.

Also I completely agree with Liliana, I feel offended when the bill was brought to me without me asking for it. More true with nationalwide chain restaurants. Ofcourse, you everyone know about the fast food chain, you pay for it and get the food and rush off.

Prefiero pagar con una tarjeta de credito (o tarjeta de cobro automatico). Es porque, normalmente, gasto el efectivo muy rapidamente!

Depende del país.  En EE.UU uso casi siempre mi tarjeta de crédito para ganar más millas.  En Tailandia casi nunca porque allá se escribe todo el número de tu tarjeta incluso la fecha de expiración.  Várias veces alguien había cobrado cosas a mi tarjeta porque todo la informacíon estuvo ya escrita en el recibo y en la copia original.  ¡La última vez que estuve en Bangkok alguien había comprado cinco pasajes de Emirate Airlines gracias a mi tarjeta!

Does the expression tarjeta de débito also mean the same thing?

Normalmente pago con tarjeta de cobro automatico en los restaurantes (As I do not have a credit card thankefully).

So in the US u do not need to ask for a the bill? the thought process here in the middle east is to ask for the bill otherwise u will be waiting a long time. thankefully latin america is the same.

Ayer comimos en el restaurante enfrente de Studio Fiesta.  Éramos siete y la cuenta era de ciento siete kuais... quince kuais cada uno. 

Yesterday we had lunch at the restaurant across the street from Studio Fiesta.  There were seven of us, and the bill ended up being 107 kuai... so 15 kuai each.

Pero al sacar el dinero, nos dimos cuenta de que todos teníamos billetes de 100.  Como yo era el que estaba más cerca, yo le di a la mesera mis cien kuais y unos diez de Carmen the intern, dejando a los demás con sus billetes de cien kuais... 

But when we went to take out our money, we all only had 100 kuai bills.  Since I was the closest, I gave the waitress my 100 kuai and 10 kuai from Carmen the intern, leaving everybody else holding their 100 kuai...

Leo y Lili se echaron una mirada porque no les gusta que yo les invite a comer... pero al final, ¡esos dos burros fueron nos únicos de no recompensarme su parte!  Pero ya me da igual.  jajaja!

Leo and Lili gave each other a look because they hate it when I pay for them, but in the end, those two fools were the only ones to not pay me back!  But I don't care... ha ha ha!

JP, thank you for the example you have put, as it is both informative of the lesson as it gives an example from real life(in spanish), plus the translation helped a lot on understanding it. Challenging for us newbees but not hard as we can always refer to the translation. On addition to that we newbees are connecting more vocabulary to the existing lesson which makes it much more powerfull.

Small question what is "the intern" in Spanish means is there such a thing ? -I guess it does not have a translation but checking- .

Quizas la manera facil de recordarlo es que la persona no trabajara permanentemente en la empresa, por lo tanto solo esta de pasada.

your lunch story was a great spanish lesson for me. It demonestrated , among other things,when to use the imperfect past and the simple past ( estaba más cerca, yo le di ), When to use ser and estar ( Como yo era el que estaba más cerca )

Instead of saying "Sí, me trae la cuenta, por favor." Can a person just say "Disculpe, la cuenta, por favor."?
