Hola Spanishpod team-Thank you for this topic! I have been a bee keeper for 2 years and I really enjoy it. Lily, you are correct about the types of bees in the hive. The queen's job is to lay eggs...the worker bees are also female and they do all the work and some of the jobs are very interesting. Besides collecting pollen, the hive has "guard bees" who guard the entrance to the hive and will only let in members of the hive...however, if a stranger shows up with pollen on her legs, she will be let in. Another job they have is "undertaker bees". The undertaker bees clean out the dead bees from the hive and move them far from the entrance. I have a bee graveyard near my front door and the hive is in the back. there are so many interesting facts about bees including how they communicate with each other to expalin where the flowers are...The drones are the males and they don't do much besides hang around and eat. A new queen will take a maiden flight and emit a hormone to attract drones to mate with her. The drones die after mating...poor things!

One funny story was when my friend brought an observation hive to a pre school for show & tell. The kids had a lot of good questions, but his all time favorite was when one of the children wanted to know if the queen had a crown!!

Thanks and keep up the good work!
PS honey bees are very gentle!

thanks, I often get confused when a sentence is spoken in the present tense but refers to something in the past or in this particular case something that could be.

I also have to admit that I often forget to conjugate that alternate form of the imperfect subjunctive in my head, because I'm a bit lazy.
