Remember Me
Lesson Introduction

Estibalitz joins Lili and JP to talk about her native Basque country in the northeast corner of Spain. Esti describes the culture, the cuisine, and even gives us a sample of the mysterious language! We'll hear about Basque cider houses, and traditional Basque sports. In fact, Esti gives us an in-studio demonstration of one of the Basque feats-of-strength contests. Txotx!

Felicidades y gracias a Estibalitz (y claro a Liliana y JP tambien)! Me encanté este Del Taco al Tango. Aprendi muchas cosas interesantes. Me encanta viajar.

Esti's enthusiastic explanation about the chuleta reminds me of the love that los argentinos have for beef, also, although that steak is more likely to be accompanied by a good red Medoc from the province of Mendoza. Me apetecen mucho, esas cocinas. Está San Sebastian acerca de Bilbao, donde está el museo de Guggenheim designed by our own Los Angeles architect, Frank Gehry? Also, when Esti describes the long wooden communal tables for eating and drinking, I remember the Basque restaurants I used to love when I lived for a long time in San Francisco. The food was in the style of the Basque shepherds who have been part of rural Northern California since the 19th century, and the spirit of the restaurants is very lively and friendly. Thank you for calling these happy memories to mind for me.

Just a minor correction it´s "cerca" not "acerca" acerca means place it close to me from the verb "acercar" maybe it was a typo. I have been to Bilbao to the Guggenheim and it is amazing! it is actually close from San Sebastian.

Bilbao is 1 hour driving from San Sebastián. The famous Guggenheim museum designed by Frank Gehry is in Bilbao, the building is very modern and beautiful at the same time. In La Rioja, Spanish wine region, there is also a winery designed by Gehry which has been built in the same style as the museum.

I know, Esti. Much as I like the word 'tortilla', I would never ever hurt my child by naming it so :)

Gracias, muy interesante lección. Quiero viajar a España tan mucho.

(Feel free to correct that last sentence, I've never tried writing in future tense before, I'm trying to say "I wish I could live in Spain from October - April")
