Hey JP & Lil - ya'll are doing a fantastic job. I love the product and am recommending it to all of my friends. Del taco al tango is a great edition and I really enjoyed the cultural conversation today to complement the language practice.

I enjoyed the conversation, very entertaining. I couldn't quite catch the phrase about Willie Mays? Like "No dejame Willie Mays" or something?

evenstar, The phrase is "no te hagas el Willie Mays." (I repeated it wrong in the podcast! Sorry!) Camilo speaks what we call a costeño variety of Spanish, where syllable-final /s/ is pronouned as an [h]. So you might hear, [no te agah el wili meih]. I actually learned to speak a costeño variety, but when I'm teaching, or when I'm hanging around with Mexicans (which is a lot, these days) I tend to pronounce those final /s/ as [s]. But sometimes, when I'm not paying attention, the costeño sound comes out... or when I have too much to drink...

I heard "es una cosa bien", "pasar el pelo", "el lugar", la vamos a pasar, "voy yo momentar aqui", and a bunch of "pa que"s. Did I get any of it right???!

Hi! You did! in fact pa' is a contraction of the word "para" for, and also "pasar al pelo" it translates to pass at the hair, which English doesn't mean anything but it means " to have a great time." Good job! anyone else?

Wow! this show is just awesome. While listening to Camilo, I also recalled that in Colombia many people also say 'guachiman' to refer to the watchman and 'bluyins negros' (jejeje) also really common. ¿¿¿Hacerse las lolas!!!! So funny... I agree with Lili, formally we might say 'operarse el busto' or or or -in Colombia- 'ponerse pochecas'.

"Porque te lo quiero decir pa que lo sepáis, aquí vas a estar y vamos a gozar y la vas a pasar al pelo, porque estas en Maracaibo, es el lugar donde se escucha la gaita, se goza bien y vamos a pasar chévere, porque vos y yo vamos a estar aquí pa que te lo sepáis" this is what Camilo said in Spanish. In English is a bit difficult to translate but here goes " Because I want to tell you so you know, you are going to be here to enjoy, we are going to have a great time because you are in Maracaibo, the place where we listen gaita (local music), you enjoy yourself, because you and I are here, so this is what you should know"

lanerduo1: "pasar chévere" is an expression in Latin America that means, have a great time and "pantalones de mezclilla" are jeans, "mezclilla" means "denim", and "pantalones" means "pants."

Me encantan tales episodios! Mis libros en la escuela y la universidad no eran tan interestantes y no trataban de tantas detalles (?) tan interestantes de los diferentes paises hispano hablantes.

And I thought Puerto Rican Spanish was reputed to be the fastest.  Now I'm not so sure! No chance in hell that I can understand Camilo's speed race!

Muchas gracias!

Evandar,

With all that Scandinavian reserve, you can handle it.

Funny, here is the BBC news of the weird video  about  Miss Plastic Surgery in Venezuala, Pet hedgehogs in Britain, and  a Zombie party parade here in Minnesota.

Todos en español.

It is well known how popular is plastic surgery in places like Venezuela and Brazil

There are so many women doing it, its part of the culture.

Thanks for the video!
