"...que es tarde." Could the "que" in this case be a shortened form of "porque", in the same way that in English we say "cause" for "because"? As in, "hurry up, 'cause it's late!"

I listen at work on my mp3 player when things are slow. All the guys I work with are Mexican, and I can't understand a word they say (except the swear words- boy they swear a lot!) So when I'm around them I try to eavesdrop, as it were, and when things slow down and I go downstairs to prep, it's Spanishpod! I like to think of it as "stealth learning". They don't know I'm learning, so when they least expect it, I'll spring something on them in Spanish and they will be amazed. Gracias a JP y Lili. : )
