I don't know if I'll ever be able to call myself fluent. I'll be doing fairly well understanding novelas, the news, game shows and then I'll rent a DVD in Spanish and walk away bummed out because my comprehension was so low. I think this is caused by 2 things, 1)slang and 2) the accent of the country the movie was made in. Now I don't consider slang essential for fluency but I do think that a knowledge of the language the transcends accents is a good indication of fluency since you are in tune to the core of the language and not thrown off by the accents. Just my thoughts.

I love that martinillo brought up dreaming in a foreign language. Sometimes the people in my dreams will talk to me in Spanish but then switch to English. I always get mad at them when they do that :)
