LA ESCALA DE HECES DE BRISTOL

Perdón por lo escatológico del tema, por adelantado y para que sirva de aviso a navegantes. Vamos a hablarles breve y conciso de un sistema de clasificación sobre las heces humanas, algo que puede parecer superfluo, pero que tiene una gran importancia para poder diagnosticas determinados tipos de dolencias y de trastornos. Se trata de la escala de heces de Bristol o gráfico de heces de Bristol, una tabla visual usada por los médicos y desarrollada por científicos de la Universidad de Bristol, en la Gran Bretaña. Fue publicada por primera vez en el Diario escandinavo de gastroenterología en 1997.

El grafico propone siete tipos básicos de heces, pero, antes de exponerlas, una cuestión: ¿de qué depende la forma de nuestras heces? Pues bien, la respuesta es que existe una correlación directa entre la forma/consistencia de las heces y la cantidad de tiempo que ha pasado en el colon (debido a factores varios como la hidratación, estreñimiento o falta de la dieta, alimentos consumidos…).

Así, según esta escala arbitraria, tendremos 7 tipos de heces:

Tipo 1: Trozos duros, separados, como nueces, como conguitos grandes, que pasan con dificultad por donde tienen que pasar. Son así porque han pasado la mayor cantidad de tiempo en el tracto intestinal, signo seguro de que se está estreñido, deshidratado y lleno de toxinas, y de que necesita una limpieza intestinal. Estas son las heces más comunes entre los individuos con un estilo de vida no tan saludable.

Tipo 2: Como una salchicha compuesta de fragmentos, como uniones de elementos tipo 1. Indica los mismos síntomas, aunque de menor alcance.

Tipo 3: Con forma de morcilla o salchicha, con grietas en la superficie. Son consideradas normales y saludables. Consumiendo más agua contribuirá a que la materia fecal se haga más suave, y no tenga grietas al exterior, que es el motivo de que las tenga.

Tipo 4: Como una serpiente, lisa y blanda. Este tipo también es considerado normal y saludable.

Tipo 5: Trozos de masa pastosa con bordes definidos, que son defecados fácilmente. Se considera un tipo de diarrea suave y también se pueden resultar en una enfermedad intestinal.

Tipo 6: Fragmentos blandos y esponjosos con bordes irregulares y consistencia pastosa. También pueden indicar que tiene diarrea

Tipo 7: Acuosa, sin pedazos sólidos, totalmente líquida, ya que han pasado menos cantidad de tiempo en el colon. Esto puede ser diarrea grave debido a algún tipo de infección bacteriana o viral.

Lo bueno de esto es que puede servir para notar algún tipo de problema nosotros mismos simplemente con asomarse a la ventana y mirar. Así los tipos 1 y 2 indican estreñimiento; los 3 y 4 son heces ideales, especialmente el 4, ya que son los más fáciles de defecar; los tipos 5, 6 y 7 tienden hacia la diarrea provocada por algún proceso infeccioso.

I assume it would be correct to say-- Yo estudiaba español al SpanishPod. since this is a continuing action.

Is it also correct to use estudiaba when speaking of Kari, mi sobrina, on the basis that though the action is past it remains important in the present, she still speaks Spanish and still is learning; or does the fact that the two semesters she studied there were definite time periods that ended trump that?

I have only one surviving aunt. She is the twin of my mother. They are eighty-six. I have only one brother and two nieces. One that speaks Spanish and has studied at The University of Guadalahara.

I think that is the way it still works.

I signed on as a praxis user, lapsed for several months then reupped.

I got a revamped account. Same online persona but with apparently a new access number that wanted to download a new copy of everything to iTunes.

The double copies confused my iTunes filters and I had to manually refile a lot of stuff so as not to "overfill" my phone.

That probably should not happen if you have been here continuously.

I TOTALLY understand the concern about reorganizing the lessons into a custom flow aimed at taking newbies and bringing them up to fluent speakers. I understand that that shall take a lot of staff time and effort, I also understand that coming out with the 5th version of basically the same lower level lesson has little to commend it.

That said, the program still needs occasional topical hooks to catch new users and keep old ones. It will die without it. The cash cow will dry up and stop producing.

Pa' que sepas and Del Taco al Tango are two important things to keep going. They are the key to keeping the site fresh and keeping the intermediate and advanced students around both resident, and returning for another dip in the pool.

I think that occasional feedback programs in the other "canned" pods might help them as well.
