For example, one difference is "Escuchame"  listen to me. 

On the other hand, "oir" is used to find out if I am speaking loud enough to be heard.

In this case, they are not interchangeable.

I do elementary lessons from time to time, but I'm anxious to do them full time after finishing the Newbie level.  I don't think I will do them all before moving on, though.
