Some of my favorite Spanish sayings collected through the years (with literal English translations and equivalent meanings)........

El primero es "Cuentos de la selva" (un libro de cuentos para nenes) -- es un libro divertido y mas o menos facil para leer. El segundo se llama "Cuentos de amor, de locura, y de muerte".  El vocabulario es mas avanzado pero los cuentos son buenisimos (recomiendo especialmente "El Almohadon de Plumas", el fin del cuento va a darles un largo escalofrio!).

Sin embargo, mucho suerte con la nueva direccion de SpanishPod y vamos a ver adonde va!  Si no me gusta... pues, sé donde viven Uds (pero ahora mismo no tengo el dinero para volar ahi)... ja!!

JP... you might want a do-over on that written statement.  You're missing a very key VERB in it (although it's a blast to "fill in the blank" with all KINDS of things!)  Let's name a few of them...

Que hizo JP con el sandwich... molestarlo?  tentalearlo?  lamerlo?  cogerlo (en Argentina, ESA actividad con un sandwich seria MUY... "interesante"!)?  O puede ser algo mas "siniestro"?  Ja!!

Hmmmm, why does Lili's hair start out short and reddish-brownish at the beginning of the video but by the end, when it's time to eat chilaquiles, her hair has magically grown longer (although tied up) and is somewhat more brownish-blackish?  ...obvio que no es MUY importante (y me encanta a Lili por supuestoooooooo) pero prefiero las chicas con el pelo largo y me anoté la diferencia!  Además gracias por la receta... que rico!

Maybe it's regional, but in Buenos Aires I hear “que tengas un buen fin de semana” A LOT -- even among the Argenteenagers, so I assume it's not a "formal" phrase when in Argentina.

Yep, I've heard of loísmo / leísmo in BsAs... although none of this quite answers my tangent (didn't I start out with "entender"?!) about "Hola todos, hoy los / les hablo de Córdoba"... I definitely hear the Spaniards interchange them a lot.  Argentines too, but not as frequently.

Bueno... tal vez sea una "cosa de lenguaje" y no haya una razón.  Pero que discusión, no?

(1) Les entiendo (a Uds, lo que dicen).

(2) Los entiendo (lo que dicen).

In English, is it roughly correct to translate the above as:

(1) I understand you guys (or "you all") / what you're saying.

(2) I understand them (what they're saying).

Thanks again... this is such a great place to figure out the subtle nuances and annoying intricacies of Spanish!

That helps a lot... the next time I tell someone I understand what they're saying, I just wanted to be sure that they didn't think I could "peer into their soul" and TRULY understood them, ha.

Por favor ayúdame entender una matiz de "entender".  Me gustaría saber si hay una diferencia entre los dos conceptos siguientes:

-- I understand you (i.e., what you are saying).

-- I understand you (I "get" you; I know what you're all about; I know what makes you tick, etc).

Con respecto a "entender", ¿existe tal distinción en la lengua española?
