I just found a book here in Seoul called "Easy Spanish Reader." by William T. Tardy. It is a 3 part book that starts VERY basic, i.e. "Enrique y Maria son amigos. Enrique de espana." and then it builds to more complicated sentences, through basic Latin Ameican History, as well as an adpated version of "Lazarillo de Tormes."

Anyway, I am really having a ball reading it. Although, it doesn't teach any grammar explicitly. They do help with the occasional definition here and there, but you're mostly on your own. It's basic and simple enough that I can read and understand the first 2 dozen readings without any trouble.

Just one more tool in the war chest!

I've heard that it takes about 6 times of using a new word before it is part of your lexicon. Of course it doesn't count to simply say the word 6 times. You have to use it in a meaningful and appropriate context.

Vocabulary can be tricky to learn on your own. Sitting down with a list of target words can work - but conversing with someone who can teach you a bunch of kitchen words , while your making dinner together, for example would be ideal. - Not that I've done that - but I think it would really work!

My cellphone has an English-Korean dictionary built in, so I can easily look up a new word in an advertisement or newspaper very easily. I'm sure it has contributed substantially to my vocabulary.
