Hey folks.. Check out http://www.corectme.com/ it is a free community of foreign langugage learners who submit writing samples for practice and correct each other's work. Basically you trade "credits" for writing and correcting pieces. It's based on the length of the piece. You start with 2000 credits, and when you submit, credits are deducted. When you correct a piece, you get it's value in credits added to your account!

Looks like they support submissions in just about any language but of course the site needs users to thrive! So sign up.. it's free! And encourage all your multi-lingual friends to do the same!

snackbarmo... I plan to do some volunteer work, and take Spanish. I'll definitely see Guatemala on the trip as well as El Salvador and Nicaragua. Mexico might make the list too.... Steve, thanls ofr the information... I'll keep it in mind as I make my plans!

I have a question about the line: "Creo que lo incluyen" What about "I think it is included" ? "Creo que lo inclue" ??? "they include it" and "it is included" strike me as having different structures in English... what about in Spanish?

Lilliana.. thanks for remembering my trip to Honduras! I'm actually going to be flying in to San Pedro de Sula, and then heading right to Copan Ruinas for several weeks to study. I can't wait to try those foods!

I just found a book here in Seoul called "Easy Spanish Reader." by William T. Tardy. It is a 3 part book that starts VERY basic, i.e. "Enrique y Maria son amigos. Enrique de espana." and then it builds to more complicated sentences, through basic Latin Ameican History, as well as an adpated version of "Lazarillo de Tormes." Anyway, I am really having a ball reading it. Although, it doesn't teach any grammar explicitly. They do help with the occasional definition here and there, but you're mostly on your own. It's basic and simple enough that I can read and understand the first 2 dozen readings without any trouble. Just one more tool in the war chest!

I think there are some errors in the extension section: Here are just two examples: En casa de tu abuela, ahí nací. (You can buy cigarettes there.) Ahí puedes comprar cigarros. (I can’t talk to him, he is stubborn.)

I've heard that it takes about 6 times of using a new word before it is part of your lexicon. Of course it doesn't count to simply say the word 6 times. You have to use it in a meaningful and appropriate context. Vocabulary can be tricky to learn on your own. Sitting down with a list of target words can work - but conversing with someone who can teach you a bunch of kitchen words , while your making dinner together, for example would be ideal. - Not that I've done that - but I think it would really work! My cellphone has an English-Korean dictionary built in, so I can easily look up a new word in an advertisement or newspaper very easily. I'm sure it has contributed substantially to my vocabulary.

From the "extension" section: Hoy no tengo tiempo. / Tengo clases hoy. These seem to be grammatically equal sentences, why does the word order chanage in the second? I would have thought: "Hoy tengo clases."

Wow.. yardbird... you brought up Kimchi! I'm impressed. I currently live in Korea, so I have the privilege of eating it every day! Living here for the past two years has certainly helped me grow to like spicy food, so when I get to Latin America, i'll be ready!

When I was in third grade, we had Spanish class once a week, and I have a very vivid memory of Senora Levin teaching us "Como se dice..." She really wanted us to try and use Spanish exclusively!
