Elementary - Smells nasty! (B0219)

In the dialogue for B0219, we use the verb sostener to say 'hold'.

"Toma, sostén por un momento al bebé."
"Here, hold the baby for a moment."

Can someone explain the differences between:

sostener / agarrar / detener / aquantar? Gracias.

Is there a difference between oprimar y marcar when talking about dialing a telephone number or pushing a button?

Hay diferencia entre "oprimar" y " marcar" cuando hable de oprimar/marcar un numero de telefono o oprimar/marcar un boton?

Por qué en la tercera frase, no dice ," Estornuda una vez más, le falta el amor". Había creido que "faltar' fue como "gustar" cuando esta conjugado.

Me preguntaba la diferencia entre "sostener" y "agarrar". Puede ser que "agarrar" insinua un gran riesgo de caerse el bebe y que "sostener" insinua mas como "mantener".

I was wondering about the difference between "sostener" and "agarrar". Is it that, "agarrar" implies more of a risk of dropping the baby and that "sostener" implies more "just holding the baby "as is"?

Y respondiendo a JP, no diria que me encantaba cambiar los panales de mi bebe, pero de ninguna manera me daba asco.

And responding to JP, I wouldn't say that changing my baby's diapers used to delight me, but in no way, did it disgust me.

Solo para confirmar...atracar es más española y asaltar o robar son mas de America Latina? Tambien, hay una diferencia entre "to rob a person" or "to rob a bank". Nunca había oido de atracar antes de este "podcast".

I believe that 'dona' is more frequently used in Latin America and 'rosquilla' is more continental - from Spain. I never heard it in Colombia nor Peru. Also, I second the preference to utilize "hay donas..." rather than "tienes donas..." for the reasons mentioned above.

Ay...la perdicion de mis estudios...el subjunctivo. Puede explicarme por que no se lo utiliza en la frase "penultima"... "Acepto, pero si gano, tu tendras que venir vestida de flamenca". A mi, el subjecto cambia de yo (primera frase) a tu (segunda frase).

Can someone explain to me the differences btwn:

- Ponerse y Meterse (y cual es la preferncia utilzar cuando esta hablando de vestirse).

- Salpicar y Chapotear (cuando my nina esta en la banera.). Y como se dice " What a big splash!"

Por favor, expliqueme porque utilizamos subjunctivo con "termines". Entiendo que lo utilizamos el subjunctivo para "dudar" pero estoy seguro que ella va a terminar su ducha eventualmente. Gracias. AY

Dos preguntas. 1) Se dice "El agua fria"? más que "El aqua frio". 2) Tambien, si se utiliza el imperativo para Ud. (line 2, se dice "Dé me una botella de agua, por favor." Es más maleducado / graseo dice una que otra? Gracias. AY

Dos preguntas de la misma tema - la de tu vs Ud. 1) Hablamos en tu o Ud en este "dialogue"? la espose, le dice a su esposo, "Necesitas su licencia". Pero lo demas de "dialogue" los ambos hablan en Ud. 2) Siempre, dice seguro(a) o cambia si hablamos en tu. Por ejemplo, en el "dialogue", a mi parece que hablamos en tu, pero el esposo le pregunto, "segura?" Two questions on the same theme - Tu vs Ud. 1) Are we speaking in "tu o Ud" in this dialogue. The wife says to her husband, "Necesitas su licencia". But the rest of the dialogue, they both speak in "Ud". 2) Do we always say "seguro(a)" or does it change when we speak in "tu". For example, in the dialogue, to me it seems that we are speaking in "Tu", but the husband asks his wife, "segura?" Gracias. AY

No estoy seguro si debo dejar mi mensaje aqui or en "El Forum"; pero me preguntaba si SPod sabe approximamente cuando tengamos la abilidad "import vocab lists". Gracias. Espero que la respuesta se sirva a todo.

Not sure if here (or Forum) is better place to post this question; but I was wondering if SPod knows when we might have the ability to "import vocab lists". Thanks. I hope this helps everyone.
