 same word  loads of different tenses it is only context that signals the tense and i would suggest that it is the same with the negative command in spanish. it may look exactly like the subjunctive but the context precludes it being the subjunctive

its not an indirect command or an idle speculation to the skies no change of subject, no clause straddling que, no ambiguity uncertainty etc...just a direct instruction to ones interlocuter and that (in my book) makes it the imperative
