Hey Cobre, I think Guzmán Romano is criticizing --in a gentle and courteous way -- some factual errors he has found in the text:

Walking through this Mexico, it is inevitable that in the course of the reading, as one goes along applauding re-encounters, surprises, or windows to the unknown, one questions certain facts or details; or one may even find [errors] such as an obvious misprint which is either accidental or perhaps is the product of the not always original, and sometimes inaccessible or nonexistent sources; [these errors occur] in spite of the [authors'] efforts to be objective and current.

Anyway, that's my best shot.  :)
