Am currently reading a spanish translation of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and had just reached the point where ford tells arthur that:
jumping to hyperspace is unpleasantly like being drunk
whats unpleasant about being drunk, replies arthur
ask a glass of water, is the punchline.
Now obviously theres no pun to be had with borracho and bebido but heres what the translator went with....
Es tan desagradable como estar borracho
¿y qué tiene de desagradable el estar borracho?
pues que luego pides un vaso de agua
well, that later you ask for a glass of water???
have i misunderstood or did he just not get the joke? well if its a dehydration reference, it didnt make me laugh.
heres my attempt at something better:
es como coger un ciego
no me suena mál
a menos que seas el ciego
which is perhaps a little ruder than the original but it is ,at least, a play on the possible meanings for coger and ciego
its like getting drunk
sounds ok to me
unless you are the blind man
etc.

heres another line that doesnt ring true
"hey, zaphods just this guy you know"
puez zaphod ez precisamente eze tipo zabe uzted
full marks for indicating the german accent with the zs but it seems to me that in this phrase, "just" means that he is unremarkable wheras the translator went for precisamente which is "just" the wrong way to go.
creo que deberian haber usado "solo"
