I had always thought that this was an expression peculiar to the porn film industry until i came across it ( no pun intended) in a spanish text t'other day meaning "to have what it takes" or "to have the makings of"
tienes madera de politico/artista/soldado/ ( ¿actor? leñador? carpintero?)
in the Group Dichos .
